Checking Out the Higher Hill Tops On a Neighbor’s Place

Friday February 14, 2025 Guerneville CA.

Road check

I rode on up through the state park to check out the old dirt road I’ve been working on to make sure it’s holding up ok to the local traffic. All seemed to be doing just fine, but I can see where it needs a bit more rock on it in some places. I’ll take care of that when the ground dries out enough.

High country

After that, I decided to take a ride up to the real high country to visit a neighbor as he wanted some advice on keeping water off his road as he’s having a problem with a spot.

I rode on up this road headed for the neighbor’s place.road1

They live on one of the higher mountains and this was the view as I rode on up to their place on one of the higher hills.view1

No one was home, except for their dog. He was happy to see me as I always bring him a small stick to chew on.

As long as I was up here, I headed on over to  the spot he’s  having trouble with.

As I was going down the road, headed to that spot, I came across this CAL Fire guy going out the gate.

Bull

We shot the bull for some time, talking about the last forest fire we had up here a few years ago. He also knew about the old dirt road I’m working on and was surprised I’d been working on making the road passible for fire trucks.calfire2

Bad spot

From there I rode on over to the trouble spot in my neighbor’s road. The road had developed a big crack in it during the last big rain storms. He put some plastic on the big crack to hopefully stop the road from caving in. His main problem is he has too much water flowing down the road during big rain storms and needs to drain his road better.raod3

Bear

From there, I turned onto this road with the big wooden bear on it. Unfortunately, the big bear didn’t save the house that was out this road during the last big forest fire.bear4

The view as I rode up to where the house burned down, looking west towards the Pacific ocean on a cloudy day.hills6

Hill top

The house used to be on this hill top, before it burned down. There’s good views from up here. Next I’m going to drive over to the next hilltop, the one to the left in this picture.hilltop5

I drove on over to that hilltop from the one to the left in this picture.hilltops7

Monument hill

That’s what they call this hill top now. We used to call it Bald Mountain as it was all grass when we were kids, with no trees on it. But now, it has these memorial stones on it for some of the people that used to own this property and died.monuments8

My house

From there, you can see the valley I live in, down towards the town of Guerneville. My house would be in lower, center left and can’t be seen in this picture. You can see some of the houses in the valley and Guerneville would be to the right of those houses.home9

I spent a little time there, looking around at the views and just enjoying the day.rig10

I headed on down the hill from there, headed home.

Nice day.
