Cutting Up the Big Log That Wouldn’t Move

Sunday January 5, 2025 Guerneville CA.

I fueled up and oiled up the chainsaw and loaded it on the little quad runner.quad1

Work

I had a big log that had fallen down across the old trail I’ve been working on improving and it needed to be cut out of the way, so that was my project for the day and maybe a little trail dirt moving too.

Narrow trail

The log was up this narrow trail that I had to ride the quad up. It barely fits, so I go real slow for most of it.trail2

I made it up to the spot where the log was down and parked here.quad3

Big log

Here is the log that should be fairly easy to cut off the trail, eh. It wasn’t.log4

Stuck saw

I got the chainsaw real stuck in the log on the first cut. I figured I couldn’t get it out without another chainsaw as it was real stuck.saw5

But I remembered I had the Pulaski stashed not far up the trail, so I walked up to get it at this spot, right where I left it.tools6

I thought I might be able to pry with the little end if I was careful and didn’t break it off.tine7

I could see right away the Pulaski wasn’t going to help any as if I pried with it very hard, it was going to break. So I took a break then grabbed the saw and pulled real hard on it and worked it back and forth and eventually, I had it in this position and I got it out.saw8

I cut the log three more times but now I wasn’t able to roll the pieces to get them off the trail. I worked on it for a log time.log9

I was only able to move the log a little bit, but not enough to get the log to move and get it rolled out of the way.logs11

Too tired out

I wore  myself out working on that and finally had to give up as I was too tired out to work on it anymore.

Digging

I quit that job for now and decided I’d work on some trail digging instead, so I walked up the trail to where things needed to be dug and sat down for a break.trail12

After a good long break, I realized I was too tired out to do any more work so walked back to the big log and got my stuff to head on down the trail on the quad. I’ll have to bring a big wrecking bar up to move these logs.logs13

I carefully worked my quad back down the narrow trail back to my place.trail14

Back home, I went in for a nap and something to eat.

Our sunset today.clouds

Nice day.
