Darn Deer
I have my place fenced in and gated to keep the deer out of my yard. But the deer are so tamed down around here, they act like they own the place. I usually keep this gate closed at night for this purpose, but there’s one deer that has been getting in my yard.
Bamboo patch
When I try to chase it out of the yard, it’s been going into this dying bamboo patch and hiding, so today I used my skidder to cut a path into it so I’d have a chance to get in there and chase it out. This patch of bamboo riced out on me, died like grass does so it’s all dead and has been for around five years now. It’s something bamboo does every so often.
This evening I found the deer in my yard acting like it owned the place so I got my shotgun out. Not to kill it, but to give it a good scare which I did. I hope it stays out of the yard now.
Planting flowers
My brother Tom worked this part of my yard over with his tractor today. He’s going to plant some kind of flowers in here to sell at the Farmer’s Market.
Avocado tree
The wind blew real hard the other day and blew all the leaves off this young avocado tree, mostly because it wasn’t looking good coming out of the winter. I added some fertilizer to it hoping it will grow some new leaves.
Scotch broom
Then I took Skiddy up into the hills to do some work and worked on trying to get the scotch broom off a neighbor’s road. It tends to just bend over and it’s hard to remove, so I just did enough to make the road passible.
Cherries
I have a good crop of cherries this year and have been eating as many as I can.
And this is the best year I’ve had with my loquats. They are sorta like apricots, but a bit on the sour side.
They are about the same size as apricots too.
