Forest work
Today, I was meeting a couple of state park guys to haul some rock to fix what I call, the swamp in the road, which is just one big pot hole with more pot holes in it. I was going to load the rock and they were going to haul it in their dump truck and smooth it out with their machine.
I rode up this road in the park to meet them at the appointed time.
I got there a bit early and parked here to check out what we were going to do today..
It rained a bit the other day, so there is some water in the pot holes, but when it really rains, the whole thing is flooded. We need to build up the road bed with some larger rocks.
We met and discussed what needs to be done and got to it. The guy drove the dump truck up to the top of the road and I loaded up his truck with rock from our place where I’m working on clearing this rock slide off the road.
I used Skiddy to load up the dump truck.
We got a routine going and were making good progress, but it was voting day, so they had to quit a bit early to vote.
I loaded up the truck once more and followed this last load down the hill to lock the gate behind us,up.
After locking the gate, I caught up with the dump truck just as he was ready to dump the rock on the road we were repairing.
He’s starting to dump the last load of the day. Some of the rock looks rather large, but it is soft rock and breaks up when it’s spread out a bit. Just what we need to fix this situation.
And then the guy in the excavator did his job and smoothed it all out.
We still need a couple more loads to finish this off, but it will do for now, until we get back and do some more work on it. It will no longer be known as the Swamp.
They took off to vote and I went on home for a nap.
Chickens
My brother Tom said one of the chickens was way over at a neighbors place in the creek and may not be able to find it’s way home to roost tonight.
I let the chickens out into the front yard.
I went out, just before dark to lock the chickens up. Sure enough, there was one chicken missing. Maybe she will survive and find her way home tomorrow if some critter doesn’t get her during the night.
Nice day.
