Finishing Off This Spring Tap and Some Trail Cam Shots

Sunday October 8, 2023 Guerneville CA.

Spring work

I rode on up to finish off the spring I was tapping around noon today.parked1

I only  had a little work to do to finish off this spring tap and today I brought up my flashlight so I could see what was going on in the hole as it was dark in there. I got the outlet pipe installed. I was shooting video clips to make another spring tapping video for YouTube so I needed the light for that too.light3

Rock it

I installed the stainless steel kitchen strainer and started to fill the hole up with rocks.rocks4

My camera’s night vision works pretty good too. I’ve had this camera for years and just discovered the night shot button.screen5

660 gallons a day

I  measured the spring’s output and there was about a half gallon every minute which comes out to about 660 gallons a day.water6

I threw some leaves and forest debris over the whole thing to finish it off. I’ll put some black paint on the white pipe eventually to make it blend into the forest better.spring7

Drink of Water Spring video is here

This is a detailed video of how I tap a spring.

Trail cam shots

On the way home I picked up a trail cam card.

This bobcat came by in the day while I was down below working on the spring the other day.bobcat

And this fox has been coming by every night. It stopped to eat an apple core I throw out after eating the apple.fox

I’ll be working on putting the YouTube video together for this spring. Spring tapping videos are my most popular videos on YouTube.

Nice day.

Working On a New Spring, But It Was Just Too Dark

Saturday October 7, 2023 Guerneville CA.

Apples

I grabbed two apples off the tree to take with me up into the hills for a snack later.apples1

Spring in the hills

Then I grabbed some tools I needed and rode on up into the hills to this spring I’ve been working on tapping.spring2

I needed to dig out the ditch for this pipe to make it a bit deeper to catch the spring water.spring3

The spring is coming out of the  hill here, but now I have a problem.waterditch4

It’s too dark to see where the water is coming from and I didn’t bring a flash light up with me.dark5

But I discovered a button on my camera I’ve never used that said night shot, so I pressed the button to give it a try. That really improved the picture.tap6

I dug out the pipe ditch some more until I had it about right.pipe7

The pipe is ready to install, but to do it right, I need a flashlight to make sure I line things up properly. I didn’t feel I could trust the night shot on  the camera to do it.water8

Gave up for now

So, I gave up on that and went out to the rest area where there was a view and took a good break before heading home.

The rest of the day was spent just puttering around the yard with the chickens.hens9

Nice day.
