Fixing a Road On An Irate Neighbor’s Place

Neighbors road work

I was to meet Cliff up at the road we were going to open today. The road is one that goes through another neighbor’s property who claims no one has a legal right of way through his place. Even though another neighbor took him to court a few years ago to prove he did have a right to pass through his property.

I rode on up to where I parked Skiddy the other day and got it warmed up and drove down the hill about a mile to the road we were going to work on.rigs

Road work

I got to the road first and started opening up the first slide. I’d say there were three big slides with trees in them which complicated things quite a bit as the trees were stuck in the slides so required a lot of work to free them up. Cliff showed up. He’s mostly supervising.

Neighbor’s an ass

It wasn’t too long before the land owner showed up in a huff. Bottom line, get off the property as no one has a legal right of way through the place. We knew better. After some contemplating, we decided to ignore him and get the road opened up. The guy stayed and took pictures of the whole process. The best I could give him is he is an ass. He wants to use every one else’s roads that go through their property, but doesn’t want anyone to go through his place and he doesn’t have a legal right of way though the other neighbor’s places.

He’d built a road a few years back to get into his place which is just above the road I’m working on  opening up. His road has washed out several times causing all the big slides on the road I”m working on.

I ran into several big trees inside the slides that took a lot of extra time. I got all three big slides removed and a half dozen littler ones and the road was open.

I would of taken some pictures, but I left my camera back in my side by side.

When I left the slide area, I loaded up the bucket on Skiddy with rock, to drop off on the way out in a big hole by another neighbor’s driveway. I didn’t have enough rock to fill the muddy hole and looked for some more rock along the road, but didn’t find any, so I had to use some dirt with only a few rocks in it. I think that muddy hole might be in a bigger mess than when I started.  Oh well.

I made it back to where the side by side was parked and fueled up Skiddy. Then I  headed on down the road through the state park to my place.trees

Once home, I went in for a nap and that was it for the day.

Nice day.

Setting Skiddy Up To Open the Neighbors Road

Thursday April 3, 2025 Guerneville CA.

I needed to get Skiddy back up into the hills as I have some work to do for some  neighbors, way in the back country. I drove my side by side up to my cousin’s and asked her to take me home where I could get Skiddy and then drive my side by side back up in the hills where I’d leave Skiddy to do some work tomorrow. She’s learning to drive my side by side so is happy to do this.

Here’s Skiddy and I just pulled up to fuel Skiddy up with diesel, so it would be ready to go to work tomorrow.rigs1

He’s a sorta problem

With that taken care of I drove on down to where I’ll be working, to visit with Cliff, who I’ll be helping out. I found him on his place. We discussed what needs to be done with opening the road. The road goes through another neighbor’s place who doesn’t like the neighbors going through his place. They have legal right of ways so nothing he can do about it. Anyway, he’s a sorta problem.

Interesting enough, that neighbor’s road is closed, washed out, and  he’s been using the road I’ve been working on and he has no legal right of way for this road. He doesn’t like neighbors using the road on his place, but he thinks it’s just fine if he uses their other road that he has no legal right to use.

All this is all the other neighbors problem and I try to remain neutral on the subject.

Anyway, I  hope he doesn’t blow his top as it’s actually in his own interest to get the road opened up.

This is the ranch that Cliff owns. A nice piece of property, way back in the hills.ranch

Creek crossing

On the way out, I stopped to check out a creek crossing I have to cross as the old bridge there doesn’t look strong enough to hold up Skiddy. There’s a rather deep water hole right where I need to cross the creek, so I’ll have to be real careful not to get stuck.

From there, I headed for home and a nap.

Nice day.
