Putting the Smoker To the Test With Fish

Smoking fish

I had a few pieces of salmon to test the system out today. I thought I’d only try a few pieces to test the system out so if things didn’t work out too good, I’d have another chance with the rest of the salmon.

I got the firebox fire going around one.smoker1

It didn’t take long to get smoke going.fire2

The fish is starting to show some color from the smoke.fish4

It’s almost done here, just need to get it up to around 145 F. They didn’t all reach that temperature at the same time so I took the ones out as they reached that temp.fish5

It took me longer to get them up to 145 F. than I thought. I think I just need the fire to be a bit hotter sooner.

Here’s the finished product which I will sample later, or tomorrow after they cool down.fish6

Well, I didn’t wait very long and tried it and it’s good.

    Your salmon looks delicious. It’s been many years since we did smoked salmon.

      It’s been many years since I did it too. Well worth it and really not that hard to do, once you get some salmon. :O)
