Forest road work
I needed to get back at putting rock on the road as lots of rain is coming in about a day.
I thought it might be sunny today which would give the dirt road time to dry out a bit, but I was greeted with heavy fog today, so no sun.
Cleaning the bucket
I needed to dig out some stuck dirt in the bucket so I took care of that first. Too much stuck dirt means I carry a lot less rock for the road.
I scraped all the dirt and rock out of the bucket which likely doesn’t last long before it’s got more stuck dirt in it.
Rock routine
I load up with rock here and head up the road for about a quarter mile or so where I need rock on the road. Today, I needed to fill up a couple sink holes that were forming in the old ditch I filled in, which I expected, as the old ditch was fairly deep. Eight feet in the deepest part and lot of it about three feet deep. the ditch was more like a creek going down the road.
I drove right into the dense fog and turned right and headed on down the hill a ways to dump the rock where it is needed.
And then return to get some more rock at the rock slide.
I dumped some rock on this mucky part to give it a little more traction.
After going up and down with loads of rock all day, the road gets tracked up a bit. The machine with a loaded bucket of rock, packs the road bed in pretty good.
It was still real foggy when I parked the machine for the day, just before five.
Ditches
On the way out, I stopped here at this drainage ditch to make sure the water that crosses the road here, was not going down the road. I put this ditch in yesterday to keep the water from running down the road. It just needs some sunshine to dry things out, but it more likely is going to get about a week of rain instead.
Gate
I stopped at the gate to open and close it to get out into the main park. My lights are on.
Looking back at my rig with the lights on at the park gate.
I made it home for a nap.
Nice day.
The rock slide has given what you need to fix the roads. Pretty cool.
Nice YT video of Rep. Massie building his timberframe house using everything from his own property. Just beautiful. About 35 mins. Some guys, you included, are so smart.
