The Old Dirt Road’s Water Crossings Get Improved

Kiosk

When I rode up through the state park today, I could see the guys working on the park kiosk. I think a couple more days and they will have it done.kiosk1

I rode on up through the state park to where Skiddy was parked and cranked it over to warm it up.r[gs2

Waster crossing improvements

Today, I was going to try and improve the water crossing ditches on the old dirt road as the temporary ones aren’t working that good. Cars and trucks are hitting bottom on some of them and water is getting by them too easily and flowing down the steep roads causing water damage problems. I’ve been waiting a long time for the rains to slow down and the ground to dry out a bit to do this.

I worked my way down the hill improving about five of them. At the bottom I went outside the gate to clean up some mud from the rock slide that slid a bit last time it rained.

I just cleaned up the rock slide and will now go back up the road and work on the water crossings some more.gate3

Water crossings

Its’s hard to tell in the pictures, but I widened this water crossing out a bunch and made the crossing much wider so the ditch wasn’t so steep. I’ll likely adjust the crossing a bit more the next time I work on the road to make sure water flows across the ditch properly.ditch4

Here’s another water crossing that you might be more able to see. It’s widened out and much smoother sides than the one I replaced.ditch5

Once I finished all the water crossing work,  was done for the day so I rode Skiddy back up to the top of the road and parked it.

I rode Hondo back down the road to check out my work.

I noticed the state park got some new gates they are going to install on the old road.gates6

I rode on up through the big redwood trees headed for the park’s shop.park7

I found a few park guys working there, so we shot the bull for a bit and I got caught up on the park gossip.shop8

Nice day.
