Road Work and the Skidder Track Gets Knocked Off

Friday May 2, 2025 Guerneville CA.

Gates

I was headed up to do some more work on  the dirt road. I saw this when I went through the state park. Markings for a new gate on the dirt road.gate1

And some more markings for another gate on the road. The state guys are supposed to install these two gates next week.gate2

Road work

I made it up to where I park  Skiddy. There was a lot of mud in the bucket so I had to loosen it up to get it out so it would haul  more rock and dirt.bucket3

Track off

I got to work and was doing well, when I hit a root on a big tree on the side of the track that knocked it off it’s wheels and sprocket. Darn, that not going to be easy to get back on.track4

I’ve found that the track falls off real easy when I hit it on it’s side, which isn’t good.

The track has moved off the wheel and the sprocket and will need to be put back on. This is the first time I knocked it off the sprocket too. I lost it off the wheels before and it wasn’t too hard to get back on, but off the sprocket will be much harder to get it back on.wheel5

I was able to get it off the road and parked in this spot so we could work on it and not block the road as this might take awhile to get it back on.rig6

I had to walk up the road about a half mile to where Hondo was parked, so I could head on home to get some help.rig7

Tom

I found Tom tilling  a spot to plant some taters and asked him for some help to get the track back on.tom8

On the way back up, I cut some small limbs to help get the track back on.sticks9

Tom and I tried to get the track back on with the sticks, but with the sprocket off too, we had no luck, so we studied the problem and I went home to get some more tools and Tom cut some blocks to put under the back of Skiddy to help raise the rig up off the ground so the tracks were in the air so we could work on it easier.blocks10

Tools

I also got the grease gun and some wrenches to let the grease out of the adjuster so the track would be loose and we could get the track back on the sprocket. I also got a big bar to help move the track back to were it was supposed to be as Tom operated the machine to move the track. We were so busy I didn’t get any pictures, but we made progress and got the track on the sprocket and then back on all the wheels. Then we had to put a lot of grease back in the track adjuster and it was fixed.rig11

Back to work

Once we tested it out and we knew it was working ok, Tom took off to get back to  his work on his garden. I worked on making this water crossing easier to drive over by widening it out a lot more then it was. More of a gentler crossing then I had before which is better for lower cars.ccrossing12

I worked on two more crossings like that before I quit for the day.

Then I drove on up to where I park the skidder for the night and fueled it up with diesel.fuel13

I went on home after that.

Nice day.
