Forest bike ride
Barry showed up in my yard this morning which meant we were going on a bike ride up in the forest…………….But.
Today I suggested we do something different and try to make it up to an old friends house that took different roads then we usually travel.
Nathan’s old place
We took off up through the state park that was real busy today.
On the way, I said let’s go up to Nathan’s old place and see if Tim is there. OK.
Nathan passed away a few years ago.
Tim wasn’t there, but I bet his camera caught us turning around at his place.
Neat bridge
We noticed this old log Tim has cut some steps in it to make it easier to get up the hill there, especially for older people. More like something a kid would do. I guess it’s more like a way to get across the creek.
We let ourselves out of the gate on the way out to head to the next place.
As we were going up the road, I saw this lone wild turkey crossing the road in front of us and going into the forest.
We were headed out this road at the top of the hill.
Red Slide
This is the view west from there. It’s called Red Slide back there as there is a red colored rock slide all the way down the hill back there, a bit hard to see with all the water haze. I’ve gone down that slide twice in my life time, so far, once when I was a kid and once about fifteen years ago.
We stopped here at this communication tower place that was real high up on the hilltop.
Guerneville
It had nice views from up there. This is looking down on the little town of Guerneville. The big thing just to the left of center is the County road yard’s big garage.
Armstrong Valley
You can see the big garage better in this picture. This is the lower end of the valley I live in called Armstrong Valley. I live at the upper end of the valley. Most of the town is behind the big trees just behind the county place and there’s a river down there too.
To the left of Guerneville is this other spot that stands out a lot.
Korbel
This is the Korbel Winery, a worldly known place.
Dead end
We were still on a mission to get to the old friends place. The park guys said they’d cleared the road but what they didn’t tell me, they only did the park part and not the part that wasn’t in the park, with looked like this, so we turned around, not making it to our friends place, maybe next time.
We decided to go through another neighbor’s place to get back to our place so went through his gate.
Of course when crossing a neighbor’s property, you have to stop in for a visit so we did for a bit.
Break spot
We rode around our place a bit then ended up at our break area for a break.
Pond
After a good break we rode around some more stopping at our little pond for a drink of water from the spring there.
We worked our way back to my place were we consumed some cherries.
