Skiddy’s bumper upgrade
I wasn’t much into it, but I needed to get some work done on the bumper parts.
I measured and cut this steel tube for the new braces I’m making. It’s an extra thick tubing that cost me over a 100 bucks for six feet of it, so I was careful to make the cuts to the right lengths.
The metal saw makes quick work cutting the tube and makes a nice clean cut.
Welding
Next it was time to weld things up a bit.. I set things up on the welding table.
I needed to weld the ends on these support tubes. There’s one on each end of the tubes.
Tacking
I tacked the ends on. Tacking is to make sure the parts are on straight and so one can take the parts apart again if things are not right when testing them out. Makes it easy to get apart if adjustments need to be made.
Parts are tacked on in this picture. They will get welded up all around if they work out when testing.
Brackets
These brackets needed to be welded up with a strong weld. I have two of them. They are tacked and ready for me to weld up.
i got the two brackets welded up. They were hot. I still had a bit more welding on them but they were too hot to handle, so I set them to cool.
Forest road work
While the parts were cooling down, I rode up into the hills to check on those culverts some more. I didn’t expect these cars there where the culverts were. But the guy in the red truck had some information about the six foot culvert rip and repair. He said they put cement over the rip to repair it. I should of asked him if they used rebar too. They had a mechanic working on a broke down car is why they were there.
Small culvert
I shined my flash light into this culvert to have a look. Some debris in there, but not bad.
Big culvert
Then I went back to the six foot culvert with the rip in it to have another look, down in the hole there.
The rip
I wanted to inspect the rip closer.
Looking closely, I could see they’d put a piece of culvert over the rip before putting cement on top which made this rip stronger than it looked.
Looking down at the rest of that culvert, I could see it was rusted out at the bottom which was ok and wouldn’t hurt anything. It also had a partial blockage that needs to be removed. A guy is supposed to cut those logs out at the end.
Pond
After I was done checking the culverts I headed towards home stopping at the pond. I was surprised how much the water level had dropped in the last couple of days. The water level seems to go up and down with how hot the days are. I don’t think it will dry up so the little fish should be all right.
I made it home for a nap. I’d planned to work on the welding stuff some more, but never got to it and did some chair hopping instead.
Nice day.
