Rainy day
It started raining last night about 2 and hasn’t stopped much. Right now at, 5 PM, I see about 7 inches of rain in my gauge. It’s still raining nicely.
Road work
I got an email from the state park guys this morning asking if I could remove a small rock slide on the road I’ve been working on as they didn’t have any machinery close by to work on it.
I went up there and had a look. My dozer was parked nearby, so I got it fired up and took the slide out and did some repairs too.
It all worked out real good as the spot with the slide is a narrow spot in the road that I was going to do some repairs on real soon, but the rain started first.
The rock from that little slide was just what I needed to repair that narrow spot so I worked on that and it came out pretty good and is much easier to get by that part of the road now.
However, when I was removing the rock slide, I noticed the rocky hill above was real unstable and likely to slide a lot more soon. That would be good as I’d have even more rock to do the repair even better.
Dozer work
I pulled up to the dozer as it was parked near the rock slide. It just sits out there in the rain. Turned the key and it started right up and I was off to fix the rock slide.
It was mostly too wet for pictures and I also get involved with what I’m doing on the dozer and just forget to take any.
Shovel work
I parked the dozer and rode on up the road to check it out. This road is real bad and has a lot of water running down it. I stopped here to direct the water off the road. I also did that in several other places on the road.
Cousin’s place
I made it up to my cousin’s place on the ridge top and found her outside with her hoe, just starting to do some road work.
I helped her ditch the water off her driveway road. Eventually, I’ll be up here with Skiddy to do a better job of draining the road.
Our place
From there I went over to our place to have a look. All the roads on our place don’t have much problems as they are all out-sloped so the water runs off of them, instead of down them, which causes erosion problems otherwise.
Pond
I went by the pond and found it all filled up and overflowing like it should in the drainage ditch I made for it.
It’s almost large enough to really be called a pond now.
I worked my way down the hill and stopped here to remove enough of this downed redwood tree so I could pass. Did I mention that it’s been raining pretty hard all day long.
I made it home and changed out of my wet rain gear and stoked up the wood stove to warm up a bit.
At five I went out to check the rain gauge which registered 7 inches and it’s still raining fairly hard at 6.
Nice day, it’s always nice to go out and play in the rain, especially in bigger storms like this one.
Hard to believe you could do all that with that much rain!!! 7″ here is like…well, I can’t even think of a word. 12″ in a day here is the most I’ve seen, and there was no doing anything, but maybe nobody knows how since it’s only once every loooonnng time that it happens.
