Back to the rock slide
I thought I better get back up to the rock slide this morning to check it out. It rained hard all night long and this morning.
But it stopped for awhile around noon when I rode on up to the rock slide. I parked here just below the rock slide to have a look. Yes, it was closed.
With all the rain we’ve been having, the slide slid again. I studied the situation and decided the best way to deal with this was just remove the bottom of the slide on the left side, so cars can pass by. I can just push the rocks into that little area on the right which shouldn’t take very long.
And from what I see up at the top of the slide, things don’t look very stable so I expect more stuff to come tumbling down.
My dozer was parked nearby, so I walked up to it, because I couldn’t get by the slide with Hondo.
I got the dozer started and warmed up a bit, then drove it the short distance down to the rock slide.
Got it done
It didn’t take very long and looked pretty good and now the other guy that works on this with his smaller machine can clear it by pushing the rock down the road as long as the slide doesn’t get too large.
I drove the dozer back to it’s parking place and then rode on over to the state park shop to talk with the guys about the slide. I caught the right guy there eating his lunch. He’s one of the guys that will eventually help me rock the road.
Next to the shop was this visitor center where a lady worked that sells grass fed cattle right off the ranch and I wanted to talk with her. She wasn’t in as she’s busy taking care of water problems on her ranch up along the coast. But I had a good chat with the other people that were in there.
When I left, I found the guy I was talking with in the shop working to get this big tree that fell down out of the road in the redwoods picnic area.
I rode on back to the slide area to make sure the road was still open and it was.
I continued on up the hill to our property and spent some time throwing sticks like this one off the road.
That’s a limb from a redwood tree, one of the smaller ones.
I drove on up to the ridge top to the Guerneville overlook and saw what I expected, rain clouds.
On the way home I noticed this area by the mobile home had sunk a bit. I guess we need some dirt for that.
I made it home and it was nap time.
Nice day.
