Rain, A Ride In the Forest and Some Missing Chickens

Rain prep

It was supposed to start raining late today, so it was time to put Hondo’s windshield on so I can use it in the rain. I take it off in the summer as it causes a vacuum that sucks the dust into the riding area. Without it in the winter, it sucks rain in the front. It’s mostly held on with plastic snaps, or clamps.hondo1

I checked the oil and it was low so I put some in as it was low. Now it should shift better, as it’s been a bit slow lately.

Going for a ride in the forest

With Hondo ready for the rain, I put the chainsaws in Hondo and took off for the hills.

First stop was here to cut this leaning tree out of the way. That was a little one. I knew where there was a much larger one that I would get later.tree2

I stopped here at this trail to walk up a about a quarter mile to cut a small log off a bridge.trail3

Ok, it was a small bridge also. I just had to cut the end of the log off, so the bridge would be easier to cross when the water is up.bridge4

Trail cam

Back in Hondo, I headed for higher ground and stopped here to check on one of my trail cams. This one has been giving me some trouble and needed to be checked on. I found the battery was a bit low, so maybe that was the problem. I’ll have to replace them soon.hondoo5

The cam is up in the tree and hard to see which is good because most people don’t see it and leave it alone.cam6

Rain

I went up to the top where it was just starting to rain real lightly.rain7

Good thing I put that windshield on as the rain was slowly picking up a bit.view8

Big tree

I didn’t stay long as I knew where there was a tree across the road that needed to be cut out of the road, just down the hill from the top.treee9

I started by cutting all the branches off it to be easier to move around it and not get tripped up by them.tree10

Then I cut the log into sections to make it easier to move them off the road. They are still very heavy and I had to roll them off the road.cutup11

All cleared up, so I went on by and headed for home.clearedtree12

Back home it was raining lightly.rain13

Missing chickens

When I went over to shut the chickens in for the night, five where missing. So, where were they. It was raining so maybe they were under cover someplace. I found them over at my neighbor’s place as someone had closed the gate on them and locked them in. They were all wet as I herded them on home and locked them in for the night.

Nice day, the rain is welcome. Our rains start around this time and will continue on and off through the winter. Doesn’t rain much around here in the summer which is fine with me. No humidity and mostly no bugs.

Thought the Bulldozer Was Broken, But Fortunately, I Was Wrong

Thursday October 31, 2024 Guerneville  CA.

Dozer wakeup

I brought the charged up battery back up the hill for the dozer and got it installed.rigs1

Then I added some oil to the transmission as it has a slow leak.oil2

Trouble, I thought

It started right up with a charged up battery, but. It seemed to have the  brakes stuck on when i tried to move it. After some messing around, I thought someone must of worked the turning levers too much while playing with it as that can cause the brake adjusters to adjust up too much. I thought, this is bad, now I will have to take things apart to re-adjust the brakes so they would work properly.

I took off for a ride with Hondo and my thinker finally kicked in and I thought maybe someone just accidentally set the parking brake by pushing the brake pedal and the little parking brake lever got set and, just maybe that was all that was a matter with it, so I did a U-turn and went back to the dozer and checked the brake pedal.

Fortunately

Fortunately for me, that was the problem. I never use the parking brake mush because I drop the blade when I park so that pretty much is a parking brake.

I figure someone saw the dozer out in the woods and got in and played like they were running the dozer pushing and pulling things and that darn brake got set.

Anyway, I was happy for that and I headed over to where I will need it to do some work soon, up this road.road3

Stubborn tree

I fixed a few things on the road on the way over. When I went by this tree, I decided to stop and push it over, but it didn’t want to push over, so I chipped away at it with the blade breaking it up a bit until the dozer could push it over, just barely, but i got it out of the way as it went over the bank.tree4

A neighbor came by just before I pushed it over and helped me throw some roots off the road.tree5

I flattened out the road a bit where the tree’s stump left a big hole and then moved on down the road to a place I wanted to park the dozer and parked it.

A walk

Now, I needed to walk the mile back to where Hondo was  parked where the dozer started out from, along this road. Always lots of exercise around here.road6

Nice day.
