Tuesday December 5, 2023 Guerneville CA.
Barry showed up for a ride this morning so we took off from my house around noon.
We stopped here at the pond to collect the game cam pictures. I picked up all the game cards but nothing of interest, only the standard stuff, foxes and deer and one coon.
We stopped here so Barry could trim back some brush that was getting in the way of our ride.
Time for a drink of water at one of the springs.
Eventually we made it up to our break area at the top of the hill.
The sky from that spot as we sat to enjoy the view and rest up.
Another spot Barry wanted to trim back some brush so it was easier to get by.
Barry was trimming this back so we could pass by when I noticed a lady bug climbing up my shirt.
It’s a little late for lady bugs to be out, but it made me think of a long time ago when we had a spot where thousands of lady bugs were gathered in some small Christmas trees as kids. They disappeared likely because all us kids messed with them.
Then I saw about a dozen of them on my pants leg. Ah ha. Now where did I hit a bush and get them on me. We back tracked to look for them and finally found them.
Lady Bugs
They were in a different spot then they were a long time ago and this is the first time we’ve seen them since.
See them on this little fir tree.
Maybe this will help. They don’t eat the trees, just seem to be hibernating on them or something.
We looked around to just see how many there were, Lots of them on these weeds.
They are hard to see but there are lots of them on these dead stickers.
That was a rare find.
More noise
Back home I took off my muffler or opened it up. These bikes are very quiet, but we were wondering what they would sound like with the guts out of the mufflers. It turned out to be much noisier, like a dirt bike otta sound. I’ll try it out this way for one ride and likely put it back the way it was as being older, lots of noise isn’t so important as it was in the old days when we were kids rising hell.
Nice day.
havent seen a swarm of ladybugs in years. used to see them along austin creek. great trout bait!
The sounds of youth.
Made me think of clothespinned spokes with baseball cards and riding my bike.
That’s the closest I can get.
Cool ladybug find.
