Foggy At the River’s Mouth and a Mission

Wednesday July 12, 2023 Guerneville CA.

Had a mission

My plan was to drive down to the CA. state park headquarters on the way to the ocean and talk with the head guy there to see what is going on with the state working to acquire our family property which we hope they will do.

A bit foggy

I drove on down to the place but found the parking lot more than full so decided to continue on down to the ocean to have a look from the Jenner overlook at the Russian River’s mouth. It turned out to be a bit on the foggy side. Too foggy to see the seals and birds down there on the sandy beach.foggy1

Well, you can just barely see the seals and the birds.critters2

I noticed a guy right next to were I was standing had a new cam like I just got, an Instant 360, so I started talking to him about it as I haven’t used mine much yet, but it takes real interesting pictures. It turned out he does photography and we shot the bull for quite a spell. I used to kayak down there with the critters everyday, so I’m somewhat of an expert on what’s down there. He’s one of the guys looking over the side, from the overlook.overlook3

While we were shooting the bull, the fog cleared up a bit, but not all together.mouth4

Critters

Now, at least you can see the harbor seals and some of the birds. mostly brown pelican’s here.seals6

Another pod of seals and some galls resting on the sand.seals7

There’s quite a number of critters down there.critters8

Boat ramp

I stopped at the boat ramp just to have a look at the river with the fog waffling around.ramp9

Parked

Then I drove back to the State park place and at least this time I found a place to park and walked on into the building watching out for that bear. :O)statepark10

I’d shot the bull with this lady before and she used to live where Marty and I were out in the woods last  month. I’m surprised she recognized me as I now have a full beard.receptionist11

The head guy wasn’t in, so I asked if a guy I worked with during the forest fire a couple years ago was in as I knew he knew most of what was going on and he was in and we did shoot the bull for a good while. We also talked springs and I said I’d teach his water guy how to do them right, as he lives up in the park by my house. Anyway, we have a lot in common, so we traded a lot of info. I likely got more info from him than I would have from the head guy. Although, I should say all the guys I’ve talked to from the state park have been real good.

Mission complete

My mission was accomplished, so I drove on home, stopping at the grocery store to get the one flavor of ice cream that I can eat that isn’t corned, but they were out. That’s just as well as I tend to pig out on it. :O)

I went on home and chair hopped around the yard for the rest of the day.

Nice day.

I enjoyed the foggy pictures, we get fog like that at times too. It’s always interesting to see how quickly it comes and goes.

  2. Wonderful to meet you, Bob!

I’m the guy you were chatting with. Enjoyed my conversation with you, and I am thoroughly impressed with your life and background!

Am also positively envious that you kayaked this area and river for several years.

I posted some of the Insta360 shots I took from that day, and published it on my Instagram account:
