Nice day for a paddle
The sun was out and the wind was down as I drove into Jenner this morning and put my boat in the water. I paddled across the river and went up the side of Penny Island towards the mouth area.
I passed this great white egret. It was fishing along he shoreline catching some real little fish of some kind, about two inches long.
I paddled over to check out these terns which were resting on the lower end of Penny Island.
They flew into the are as I approached and landed again.
I sat around the end of the island just enjoying the day and eventually started across the river towards the river’s mouth area.
I noticed these turkey vultures eating something. I went over to check it out and as near as I can tell they were eating a dead seal pup and there wasn’t much left.
This raven was close by waiting for it’s chance to get some of the goodies.
I ran into these harbor seals nest. Some momma’s and their pups.
I could hear and see the ocean as it pounded the jetty as the ocean was fairly rough today.
River’s mouth is starting to close
The river’s mouth is starting to close up as sand gets pushed into the mouth from the big waves. It’s low tide right now, so it’s still open even though you can see the sand dam there. High tide will bring the ocean water over the sand so it’s still open.
Eventually I started back and saw John the guy who lives down there by his house so I stopped and shot the bull with him for a bit until my itches got the best of me and I had to head on in for the day, cutting it short.
Installing some valves
After a nap I decided to go over and work on hooking up the old well pipes. I needed to install a couple of valves for the water pipes that leave the well, so I could figure out what else I need to finish hooking up the well.
I installed these pipes and valves and now I just need to take some time to figure out what else I need to purchase to finish the job.
We work on the tractor
After that I went back to the house for another little break then I heard my brother Tom outside working on his tractor. Knowing he needed supervising I went on out and supervised from one of the chairs.
The roses
While we were working on it Tom’s girl friend Dominique came by in a golf cart with some flowers she just picked.
She had a nice bucket of roses.
New alternator looks good
Tom got the new 12 volt alternator installed that replaces the old 6 volt generator. He had to install the new mounting brackets that came with the kit.
He removed most of the old wiring harness so now I can work on getting the new wiring harness hooked up, which is the next step.
We quit just before dark which gave me a chance to sit in the yard a bit before coming in for the night.
Nice day.
