The wind was down
The was a lot of watery mist in the air as I arrived at Jenner this morning and put my boat in the water. It looked like the sun was going to break out soon and it did on and off throughout the day. And best of all, the wind was down today which always makes things even nicer.
Here’s my view as I started up the river along Penny Island.
Fishing Great Blue Heron
I watched this great blue heron fishing for a bit before it took off squawking.
I slowly paddled up the river stopping often along the shoreline checking things out. Here, I’m almost to Muskrat nest beach just up ahead. I stopped at Muskrat and spent some time before crossing the river and started heading back down.
As I crossed the river, I saw this loon swimming around, mostly.
Just below the loon, I could see some turkey vultures eating something in the grass, but I couldn’t tell what it was.
There were some geese honking and making a bunch of noise just below Paddy’s rock. The cormorants took off as I approached.
Jenner
Like I said, the wind was down and it was real nice out as I headed down the Penny Island back channel past the town of Jenner.
I was watching this crow eating something along the shoreline, but I never did figure out what it was eating?
And these geese came out of the reeds and were making their way by me as I paddled along.
I paddled by these artsy big ol redwood stumps near the bottom end of the island.
There were a couple of terns resting on the gravel near the bottom end of the island.
Open river’s mouth
I headed on down to the open river’s mouth and looked around for a bit. These cormorants were resting on a rock close by.
Harbor seals with pups
And of course there were a bunch of harbor seals with pups resting on the sandy beach near the open mouth.
I saw John the trash picker upper guy over at his house, so I paddled over and shoot the bull with him for a bit, then headed on in for the day and went on home.
I puttered around in the yard for the rest of the day and that was about it for another nice day.
