Explore day
We had a new area we wanted to check out not far from where we were. We thought most of the roads would be paved today, but.
We started out on this road headed up to Antilope Lake and we went around the lake where we where going to catch another paved road.
Detour
But the other paved road had Road Closed signs on it, so we had to turn around and retrace our route and take another way which was not paved roads and a lot longer to get to where we were going.
We turned around at the road closed signs.
We started going the other way on this road. A fire burned though this area a few years ago.
We crossed this creek but there was no way to get down to it.
We stopped here for a short break and to check our maps.
We ended up in the mountains on mountain type roads.
Windy
It was real windy today and we heard some trees falling earlier.
Fortunately, this tree was a small one and we could get through it.
Typical mountain road for a long way. We went down it for a long ways.
This creek we passed had a lot of big boulders in it with limited access.
No camp spot here
We’d been exploring all day long on the back roads, but now we’d arrived in the area we came to explore. We pulled into this spot to look for a camp spot, But.
It turned out to be someone’s back yard, so we headed back for the road to look some more.
On the way out a flock of wild turkeys walked by us.
Locals
We saw some locals on the side of the road so stopped to talk with them a bit. Turns out most of this land we wanted to explore is private land and not National forest land.
Not good, but that’s exploring. We asked about why the road we were at this morning was closed. They said they are working on it and you can go through the signs that say road closed.
Bust
Since this area is a bust as far as exploring, we opted to head back to where we were this morning on the closed road. We drove up the closed road a ways and saw a road off it that lead to a creek and we took that which worked out for our camp spot tonight.
The camp spot has a nice creek running by it.
I put out one of the crawdad traps to try my luck.
We spent the rest of the day taking it easy.
Maps
Looking at the maps tonight, there are some more creeks with roads by them just up ahead, so we’ll try and explore them tomorrow.
Nice day.
