Fixing the Muddy Road With Rock

Tuesday November 12, 2024 Guerneville CA.

Road work

Well, with the rain we had yesterday, the part of the road I took the big stump out had turned to mush and some of the neighbors weren’t too happy about it.

They wanted me to bring in big trucks of rock,………. But.

They don’t understand that when a hillside dirt road is wet, no big trucks are going to go on it. Really, they can’t as they are too big and heavy.

Since I made the mistake and made the mess, I felt obligated to fix the slippery road up the best I could with what i have.

I rode Hondo up to where Skiddy was parked and warmed it up for some work.rigs1

Hauling rock

I was going to haul rock from the rock slide near the top of the hill, down the hill about a half mile to the muddy area on the road. It was going to take multiple loads of rock. Rocking roads with a bucket is no fun, especially going down a real bumpy road like this one.

I hauled about 8 loads and spread it out good on the muddy spot. We are expecting some more rain tomorrow, which is one of the reasons I moved the rock to the bad spot.

Anyway, here I am hauling a bucket full of rock down the road.rock2

I got it done faster than I thought I would, just over two hours. My fuel was running low which was a good reason to quit and I think I repaired the road enough so they could get by easier.

I headed on home after that for a nap and something to eat.

No phone

A bit later I went out to see what condition my phone line into my house was in as the phone’s red light was blinking.

We had a big wind yesterday during the rain that took our electrical out to our houses. The big redwood tree on the corner dropped one of it’s huge limbs. They repaired the electrical line, but no one let me know that my phone line also got wiped out.

The line was down alright and so was the box that was up in another tree. I think they’ll need a new box. I sent the phone company an email to get it fixed.box3

Park guys

Around four, I rode on up to the park maintenance shop area as I wanted to talk with the guys about cleaning out a big culvert on the road I was working on. They have an excavator which would be real handy to get the two 30 foot long redwood trees that are stuck in the culvert, out.park4

The guys hadn’t returned to the shop yet from where they were working, so I had a short wait, so took a walk around the park in the big trees.

This raven came over to talk, or maybe hoping for a handout.raven5

Eventually the park guys showed up. We had our powwow and shot the bull some and I went on home.

Nice day.
