Forest Fire Report, Big Winds But I’m Safe

Sunday October 27, 2019 Guerneville CA.

I stayed and didn’t leave as I was supposed to

It was real windy today for sure. Not a good time to  have a forest fire going.

They shut the power off around 8 last night I think it was so no more communication.

I sat around in the dark thinking about what needs to be done for more fire protection around the house. Not much,  just a little as I had things in pretty good shape before this started.

Then checked on my chickens then went over to check on my brothers chickens. He has several hundred of them and he took off last night with the sheriff bugged him, but he never came by my place, just as well. :O) Tom had fed his chickens last night before he left so all was good. Of course as long as I was there I visited the strawberry patch and ate a few.

With all the wind a lot of new leaves have fallen so I tidied up as much of the new stuff as I could with a rake.

Generator woes

My brother wanted me to get the generator running and keep a freezer and his cool room going for a couple hours so this afternoon I switched all the circuit breakers at his place and mine and tried to start the generator. It was low on oil which usually stops it so I put some oil in it but it still wouldn’t go. I had to take the carburetor apart as it was all gummed up. First pull after that and it started right up.

Get the eggs

I got a call from my brother Tom checking on me and he asked me to go collect his chicken eggs so I did that.

After that I started up the generator and got things going that’s why I can write this blog and post it as long as the generator holds up.

I’m doing fine and no fire’s around here yet and the wind has slowed down a lot so I think things will be ok.

I’m posting now while I can as I heard the generator burp a little for some reason so just in case I’ll post now. I’m safe and doing fine and it was a nice day out too. :O)

The county sheriff closes our road and only homeowners are allowed in or out when the evac orders are issued.
They warned me I was on my own if I stayed, eh..I’ve made it this many years…
Anyone who doesn’t belong stands out and our vehicles are all registered and numbered.
That “jerk” was lucky he didn’t get lead poisoning………;+)
    Take care.

Oh my. I’ve missed so many posts, not just yours. I’m glad to hear that you are doing okay and hope you’ll move if you’re asked to. Fingers crossed and prayers that you are able to remain at home safe and sound.
