Forest Trail Work, Can I Get Under the Huge Tree

Friday November 8, 2024 Guerneville CA.

Forest work

I had a big tree that fell across a trail I’ve been working on. There was a lot of brush under it and I was wondering if I could just go under the tree as it was in a dangerous spot to cut it out of the way.

On the way, I heard Tom working on cleaning up some trees so I stopped to talk for a bit.Tom1

Trail

After that, I continued on up to where the trail started and rode my little quad runner up it very carefully as it was pretty narrow for the quad runner.trail2

I rode on up this trail going slow, as not to fall off it.trail3

As you can see, the quad barely fits on the trail.quad4

I was doing pretty good.quad5

Oh oh a narrow spot

I’d forgotten this place a big tree slid across the trail and made it real narrow in this spot. All I had was my feet to move some dirt and fill it up so I could get across as there was no turning around with the quad.trail6

I made it through that, but just barely and made it up to the ridge top where the riding was much easier and safer.trail7

I rode the quad as far as I could then parked and walked as the trail wasn’t finished in this part. I was able to walk under this big tree I put the trail under last winter.tree8

Can I get under this log

But I wasn’t sure I could get under this big one and I couldn’t see until I cut this brush out of the way, so I worked on that.brush9

It looks like I can dig out the trail and get under this big log ok, but I didn’t have any tools with me to do that.log10

I still  had some gas left in my chainsaw, so I walked out the trail a bit further to cut out this little tree.trees11

And then onto this last one. I sat down for a break here before I cut it out of the way.tree12

That was the last tree so the trail was cleared of trees I needed to cut out of the way.trail13

A little further up the trail, I ran into this chair so sat for a good while, enjoying the peacefulness of the forest.chair14

I hauled the chair back to the big tree I’m going under so it will be there for breaks when I come back up with tools to work on the trail.

Nice day.
