The wind was down but it was cool
Seemed like a good day to go kayaking down at Jenner today as the wind was supposed to be real low, like two miles an hour or so.
I put the boat in the water and paddled across to Penny Island thinking I’d go down by the mouth.
Even though the wind was down, there it was cool so I had a look at the mouth from Penny Island and it looked like it was open even though the water level was a bit high.
A spot out of the wind and in the sun
I changed my mind and paddled over to the upper end of Penny Island and pulled into this spot to warm up in the sun.
I hung around in this area for quite a spell.
Getting chilled
During this time, the wind changed to blowing lightly up river. This meant the breeze was blowing off the ocean and it was a bit cool. I realized I didn’t have enough warm stuff on today so I was getting chilled.
These ducks went by, some golden eyes and some mergansers.
Decided to head to the mouth, but
I finally decided to go on down to the mouth area, so I started around the island and the cool breeze was giving me second thoughts about paddling down to the mouth. I pulled in by these reeds and stopped to make up my mind what to do.
Chilled clear through
I decided I wasn’t going to make it without some warmer clothes, so I headed on in to the boat ramp and put the boat on the car as I was chilled clear through.
Drove to the overlook
So I jumped in the car and headed to the overlook above the river’s mouth to have a look while warming up with the car heater.
Here I am at the overlook, looking up the river.
It was cool here also so I took some pictures and got back in the car by the warm heater.
I’m looking at the open river’s mouth, out into the Pacific Ocean.
The river water was flowing out into the ocean nicely. With the mouth open like this spawning fish can enter the river easily.
Lots of critters
Lots of harbor seals and birds resting down there.
I left and headed for home where the sun was out, but it was cool outside at home too, so I went in the house and puttered for the rest of the day.
And that was my day.
