Forest ride

I heard Barry outside this morning with his dirt bike, which meant we’d be going for a ride up in the forest.

I got the gas out and gassed up  my bike.

Waterfall

Barry said he wanted to go up to the waterfall to check it out, since we’ve had a lot of rain.

We rode on up this trail through the redwood trees. Lots of nice big green ferns in this area.

This is the little ravine below the waterfall. It has a small creek in it that comes down from the waterfall.

We checked out the waterfall which was flowing pretty good.

Clearing roads

A lot of small trees fell across the roads during the recent rain storm. Barry takes care of removing this one, the first one and there were a lot more of them.

I wasn’t sure we’d get by this one, but Barry opened it up enough for  us to pass on by.

Checking the rock slide

We rode around quite a bit and eventually we ended up at the recent rock slide to check it out.  The rock slide is right in front of Barry and looks like it is in good condition and not over the road.

Of course we made it up to our break area at the top  of the ridge. A bit overcast today with more rain coming.

Another log. I watched Barry move it off the road.

I think this was the last log to move of the day. Barry took care of that one too.

Eventually we made it back to my place where I went in for a nap.

VIN numbers

I have two old cars in the yard that I need to get rid of. I need the VIN’s from them.

The newest car was easy to get but this one was much  more difficult.

I had to move it so I could get into the drivers door to get the VIN.

A little push from Hondo did the trick.

Unfortunately as I touched the VIN tag on the dash, it slid down under the dash and was stuck in the plastic wall somewhere. I had to break some plastic out to get to it. It’s an old car that is going to get scrapped. The rivets that held it on had corroded and were gone.

I found the tag. The numbers on it were good enough for me to read it. After recording the number, I set the tag in front of the speed odometer and it immediately slid back down under the dash and was now lodged down under near the steering wheel column. I hope I don’t need that, or I’ll have to dig it out again, ripping stuff up.

I got both cars VIN’s and called it a day as it was starting to rain a bit.

Rock Slide

I thought I better go up and check on the rock slide, first thing.

So I drove on up to the slide through the state park and parked by the slide to have a look. Looks good for now, so I don’t need to do anything about it today. A neighbor drove up behind me.

Cruising for downed trees

Since everything was good with the slide, I decided to just go for a cruise around the properties.

I headed for my cousin’s place and ran into this little tree to get off the road. That one was easy to remove.

Big slugs

With all the rain, it’s nice and wet and the banana slugs are coming out.

I stopped here to remove these little guys.

I cut them into small enough pieces to make them easy to remove.

Then I ran into this big mess of fallen trees. These are going to take awhile to deal with.

I cut it all up to make everything smaller and lighter and took a good break.

I got most of it off the road, but I needed another break before dealing with this last log, the largest one.

I got it all cleared and was now too warn out to do anymore like that. I’d just turn around and go another way if I ran into any more trees across the road.

I was headed to the top of the hill to our break area. I almost got there when I ran into another small tree across the road, so I removed it. Good thing it was small or I would have turned around.

Break time at the top. The rain had stopped for awhile.

There were lots of big clouds in the sky.

I made it back to our place to the pond. The water is starting to clear up.

Blocked again

From there I only got about a 100 feet and ran into these downed trees. I immediately turned around as I was too worn out to deal with them and there were lots of other ways home.

Home

I made it home without dealing with anymore downed trees.

We’ve had a lot rain with more coming real soon.

Russian River Flooding

We always make the news with this river flooding. It’s what rivers do when it rains real hard.

I always thank  my great grand Pappy for not buying land in the flood zone. We live up high enough so it doesn’t flood.
