Friday October 11, 2024 Last Chance Creek, Plumas Forest CA.

Otters

I was sitting in my chair by the creek this morning getting some sun when I heard this weird noise in the creek. Turned out to be about six otters sniffing to catch our scent.

There were very curious like they’d never ran into any people before.

They moved on but one by one they would come back and check us out for about the next  hour.

Next camp spot

Eventually, we broke camp and headed out across this creek crossing headed to our next camp spot.

This is the road we traveled to get to our new camp site by the creek.

Camp

It wasn’t far to our new camp spot. We pulled in here by the creek and got out to pick a spot to park that was fairly level.

We camped by the creek.

I walked around along the creek to check it out.

I walked up along this part of the creek.

And I walked across this meadow along the creek’s banks.

Visitors

We were sitting in our chairs enjoying the evening just before dark when this side by side pulled up from across the creek. We shot the bull with two hunters for a bit before they took off. Nice guys.

Sunset

There was a nice sunset tonight developing.

Cows

And some cows moved in nearby us to join us for the night.

And this was the final sunset over our camp.

Nice day.

Thursday October 10, 2024 Plumas National Forest CA.

Base camp

We are at what we call Base Camp, our main camp spot in this area. This morning Marty and I decided to walk up along the creek, above us a ways.

Scenic creek

It’s really a scenic creek, I think I’ve said that before.

Walk 1

I’m following Marty as we work our way up along the creek.

Marty is checking something out in the rocks, but I forgot what.

We stopped often to just sit and enjoy the woods.

We walked through here as our camp is just up ahead in the woods.

It was nap time when we got back to camp.

Walk two

Later in the day we walked downstream to the crossing, along here.

Murdock Crossing

Murdock used to have a big ranch here and this is the road crossing on the creek.

Marty leaves and heads back to the vans.. I continue my walk downstream along that far side, working my way along, an easy trail.

I followed a cow trail along here. The creek is off to the left in the willows. I made it into those big trees before turning back.

On the way back, I followed this cow trail through the trees. Cows make such nice trails.

Just through here and beyond the trees is a big meadow that I crossed.

I made it back to the road crossing the creek. Almost back to camp.

The sun is low in the sky and I’m almost back to our camp. The vans can be seen in the trees.

Camp

As I get closer to the vans, camp appears and I go on in for a cup of coffee.
