Forest work day
It was actually a bike ride day, but Barry showed up with his chainsaw, so we worked on trimming back stuff on the roads and trails we ride on. Tom joined us for the ride today.
We took off for the hills and this was the first spot we stopped at to cut up some logs.
Barry doesn’t like these over hanging logs as with the helmet on, they are sometimes hard to see so he trimmed it back a bit.
Just some small brush to trim back here.
And this small tree was leaning over the road.
He trimmed some brush off the trail here while I threw rocks off the trail. Tom watched.
Break area
We rode on up to our break area on the ridge top. Barry is talking finance to Tom here, just before we took off again.
Drink of water
We stopped at this spring for a drink of water. This is hog wallow spring as wild pigs sometimes wallow here in the mud below the spring. Haven’t seen them around lately.
Mushroom
We were riding along when Barry spotted this mushroom, the first one of the season. This one is one of the best wild mushrooms. Barry said he’d have it with his steak tonight. Tom was wishing he had one. He did find one like it later.
Jammed chain
Barry had some trouble with the chainsaw here when the chain fell off and he had a hard time getting it fixed back up.
We did some work and had a good ride, then headed back to my place.
Barry and Tom are having a beer and talking about finance before Barry took off for home and Tom went to do something.
I let my girls into the front yard where they like to graze.
And I went in for a nap as riding in the hills and doing some work tires one out.
Nice day.
I think that tree trimming work will never go away. Finding an edible mushroom? The icing on the cake.
