Grease and start
It was time to wake up the dozer as it’s been sitting in the rain all winter.
I greased it up and tried the starter and it started up with a little cranking.
I ran the engine for awhile to warm it up, then shut it off. That was easier than usual as most of the time I have to clean up the battery clamps.
Taking the quad up the trail
I loaded up the chainsaw on the smallest quad runner as I wanted to ride it up a trail and cut some trees off the trail that had fallen on it during the winter.
The quad runner just barely fits on the trail. With it’s large tires and me going slow I worked my way up the trail as the downed trees were at the top.
I stopped at this break rock for a bit.
I made it to the top and was going along here on the ridge top when I slid off the trail slightly because it was wet. There’s more slope on this part then the picture shows.
Just so that doesn’t happen again, I fixed up the trail in this spot.
Big rotten tree
I made it to the big rotten fir tree that fell down last winter across the trail and completely blocked it. I needed to cut a path through the mess.
The log broke up quite a bit when it fell over.
And the red stuff is rotten wood.
It took some doing but I got the trail cleared. Nothing like a bit of exercise and I did get some on this job.
With the log cleared off the trail I was able to ride out a bit further and cut this small log out of the way.
And this one got cleared out too.
From there, I walked out the trail further to a spot where I knew there was another big tree across the trail that I wanted to have a look at. I was pretty sure the chainsaw didn’t have enough gas to do this one and neither did I.
I think I can cut the one in front and go under the one in the back.
I returned to the quad runner and headed down the hill as I was starting to feel some big rain drops hitting me.
This is the part of the trail I repaired yesterday.
It was raining lightly when I got home so it was nap time.
Nice day.
A lot of trails and a lot of trees are keeping you busy. One of my father’s favorite achievements, with which he was very pleased, was scrounging part of a caterpillar bulldozer and the various parts to make a whole bulldozer, then assembling it, over quite a few years. He used it to push mesquites. I got to try it once. It was kind of fun; I can see the appeal. But – takes all kinds and we don’t all like the same stuff. (A good thing.)
Hi Bob, you sure have lots of trails to maintain. I bet those narrow trails are a blast on your bike. I see you are using the Husky for log cutting glad you found the decompression button I sure remember fast when I dont use the button on mine. Take care and keep up the good work.
