Good day for a yak
I headed on down to Jenner to kayak for the day. I put the boat in the water and paddled down along the Penny Island shoreline heading down stream towards the river’s mouth area.
Here I’m paddling down along the island after crossing the river from the boat ramp.
Resting
I pulled into this spot on the island and sat in my boat for about an hour watching the backs of my eye lids.
When I took off I ran into these merganser ducks resting.
And I paddled through these mallard ducks. They just moved out of my way as I passed on through. This is the bottom end of Penny Island where I paddled off the end headed across the river to the mouth area.
Headed to the river’s mouth area
I paddled along here headed down to the mouth area as far as you can see.
Lots of critters
There were lots of birds on the sand down there. Mostly cormorants and seagulls in this one.
There were some brown pelicans too.
And this group of harbor seals resting.
River’s mouth appears to be closed
I paddled on by all of them and into this mouth area which appears to be closed or almost closed. I can’t tell as I can’t paddle down that way as there are some more harbor seals I’m not supposed to bother.
Harbor seals
Here’s the other pack of harbor seals in the mouth channel blocking my path.
I hung around the mouth area for a bit then turned and started out of the mouth area with this view.
Osprey with a fish
Near the bottom end of Penny Island I spotted this osprey eating a small fish.
I decided to paddle up the island back channel and went by this big redwood stump.
I paddled into this little channel on the upper end of the island and took it easy for a bit.
Looking for berries
Then I thought some berries would be nice so I landed here and walked around looking for blackberries. Not much luck on the berries as they seem to be mostly over for the year.
Once I got back to my boat I sat in the grass and took it easy for about an hour or so as it was a nice place to sit.
Then I paddled into this little channel on the upper end of the island and crossed over to the other side and headed on in for the day.
A pie from Dominique’s Sweets
When I got home I went over to check on the raspberry pie Dominique made for me for some work I did for her. Yummy eh. :O)
I’ll do my best to make that pie last two days, maybe. :O)
New radios for traveling
My new little radios also came in so I worked on getting them set up.
That was it for me today for a real nice day on the river and a yummy pie too.
Looks like a great yak. That’s a lot of birds and harbor seals.
Nothing looks as good as that raspberry pie! Wow, I’m sure the work you did for her was worth this. Don’t eat it all at once!!
