Dozer Ride and Some Drone Practice and an Oops

Wednesday April 27 2022 Guerneville CA.

Dozer ride

It was past due to charge the dozer battery. I needed to take it on a ride and do a little work to charge it up. I rode my quad over to where it’s parked and tried the key and it started right up. I wasn’t sure it would as I thought I might have let the battery go too long before charging it up.dozer1

Firebreak road

I decided to drive it around a loop road and clean it up a bit going up here. This loop road was a firebreak during the forest fire a couple years ago and got all torn up so it could use a bit of smoothing up.firebreak2

Most of it was in pretty good shape so there wasn’t much to do. I stopped here and got out and moved that little log off the road as using the dozer to do it would just mess up the road and then I’d have to smooth it out again.logs3

More of a joy ride

I drove on through here about half way around the loop.dozer6

Just up ahead I saw some brush on the side of the road so I pushed it off into the woods a bit as I passed on by.brush8

That wasn’t enough to charge the battery up all the way but my brother Tom wants to move some old logs from an old bridge so it’ll get some more work soon.

I parked the dozer and went on home for some chair hopping and a nap or two.

Drone practice and an oops

In the evening I decided to do some drone practice. I wanted to practice flying around the yard real low , like just a few feet off the ground as eventually I’d like to be able to fly it in these conditions without crashing it. I flew it around the driveway loop to practice about three feet off the ground successfully. I did that a few times and changed the battery.driveway14

New battery

The next battery I flew the drone around the driveway again but then stopped here to take a photo of the chickens feeding in this garden plot. I took a photo from about three feet off the ground then decided to go higher which was my downfall or at least the drones.

I flew the drone straight up to this height and took this photo and all was well.chickens16

Oh, oh

But then I decided to fly a bit higher not realizing this tree was overhanging and ran into it.tree12

That was a big mistake and I had a big Oops. My drone hit the branches and crashed on the asphalt.drone

Broken

I was hoping for the best but that wasn’t to be. I broke an arm. They do sell bare parts for this.cracked13

Epoxy fix, I think

I think I’ll try mixing up some epoxy which should fix it. I’ll likely crash it some more doing this kind of practice. I did learn something from this mistake so it wasn’t all bad.

My drone only has a collision sensor on it’s bottom. More expensive drones have more sensors on the top and the sides to help avoid this kind of thing, but for now I’ll stick with what I have.

Nice day.

Restful Day, Van Gas Vent Unplugged and a Few Woodchips Moved Too

Tuesday April 26, 2022 Guerneville CA.

Lazy day

After getting pretty worn out yesterday it seemed like it would be a good idea to take it easy today and gave my body a break.

Making vitamin D

I did a lot of chair hopping around the yard and spending some time watching my chickens do their thing. It was a nice day with the sun out and a little wind, so I sat in the sun and made vitamin D with my shirt off.birds

Some van work

I’ve been thinking I need to find out why my van’s gas tank wasn’t venting like it should so I set up my blanket to crawl under there to have a look see.van

Gas tank vent

The little hose and the little pipe off to the right is the vent system and seems to be plugged up.hoses

Works now

I took it all apart and found the vent pipe was plugged up. I tried to clear the plug but couldn’t so just made another vent pipe and installed that and that should work better now. I wish I  had a better way to vent the gas tank but for now that’s the best I can do.

Unfortunately

While I was laying under there, when I turned over I saw this over my head. Broken shackles on the leaf spring at the right rear wheel. It looks like they’ve been broken for a couple years or so. I had noticed my van was leaning a tiny bit to that side but didn’t think much about it has it’s an old van, but now I know why and need to fix it soon.shackle

I did brush off the threads and put some oil on them to help loosen them up for now.

More taken it easy

After that it was a lot more chair hopping and some naps.

Moving woodchips

I’d noticed the chip truck guys had dumped another load of woodchips this morning before I got up. They were nice redwood chips so I moved a few loads around the yard just to add to the soil in some places.chips

One of the loads I dumped here and think I’ll make a pile here to rot and decay and make good mulch.mulch

I sat around outside until it got dark when I came on into the house for the day.

Nice day.
