Transferring the blog
I worked with my new blog host last night to figure out how to transfer my blog to their server and get it all fixed up to work right. I learned a bunch of stuff, but didn’t get the job done yet. I think I’ll wait until Monday or so to start the process and I hope it all goes well. The blog might be down for awhile when I try the transfer, but I’m not sure about that.
Trail Work
I needed to move some tools up to another trail I wanted to start work on soon. As long as I was doing that I thought I might as well take the chainsaw up and cut a few stumps off a trail I’d been working on.
I got the tools I wanted to move, loaded up, and the chainsaw too, and rode on up to this trail. That big stump there is rotten and is leaning a bit too close to the trail.
I used the Pulaski and the chainsaw to chip away and cut part of the old stump back a bit.
A bad leaner tree
Down the trail a bit from that old stump was this leaning tree that was in the way. It has a bad lean and a big curve in the tree up high that is going to make this one hard to get down and out of the way without killing me.
You can see the top of that tree is leaning a lot and also has a big curve in the top that is going to hang up on the other big trees so I’ll have to be real careful it doesn’t fall on me during the removal process.
I cut the tree off, but it hung up on the stump so I tried another cut to get it to fall, but instead my saw got stuck in the tree.
I was able to wedge the Pulaski blade in the saw cut and pry the tree apart until it fell along with the stuck saw. At least the tree didn’t fall on the saw when it fell, but it was close.
Another cut and the tree was off the trail but still didn’t fall over, but it was off the trail so it was good where it was.
Then I cut the stump down close to the ground to get it out of the way.
That’s better, now it’s easier to get by on the trail.
Another one
This was the next tree I worked on. The big root on it is making the trail real narrow. I figure I can cut the root off a bit to improve things.
I was able to cut some of the root off the tree.
That’s better and it is a bit wider now.
Hauling the tools up the hill
I left the chainsaw where I was working intending to pick it up on the way back once I’d delivered the other tools up on the hill where the other trail was I’m going to work on soon.
The sun went down as I sat here enjoying the view. It was getting dark, faster than I thought.
I rode home in the dark, but it was ok, as this quad had a headlight, but I forgot to pick up my chainsaw on the way.
Nice day. I did get some good exercise.
