More water
Today I wanted to get some more water into our water tanks so I loaded up the quad runner and headed on up to a spring I’ve been working on.
On the way I went by this pipe that crosses the road that was in need of putting back up in the air so I worked on that a bit and got it done.
More water in the tanks
Then I rode on up the hill to this spring I’ve been working on. It’s an old one that needed some repairs which I did and got the water flowing down the pipe. I measured the spring flow with the gallon paint can and it measured about a gallon and a half a minute which is a good spring around this area especially for this time of year as this is when springs are at their lowest until they are replenished this winter. I didn’t finish putting this one together because I will want to do a little more work on it after the winter rains but it’s good enough water for our water tanks now.
More spring work
After that I rode down the hill a little ways to this spring I’ve been checking out. This one was one gallon in 6 minutes. Not a lot but there are a few more like this one in the same area and water adds up. If I think there is enough water at these springs I’ll need to install some more main water pipe as I’ve never installed a main pipe to this spring area.
Dug on this spring too
Here’s another spring close by the one above and it’s putting out about the same amount of water so that would be one gallon in tree minutes total which is an improvement and there’s more water here yet to be tapped.
Checking the water level at the tanks
All that digging wore me out so I headed on home stopping at our water tanks to check the gauge.
Improving the tanks gauge
I put a pink ribbon on the gauge so it’s easier to see from a distance. With the added gallon and a half of water it should fill it right up. The gauge says it’s about five feet from the top full of water.
That was enough work for me today so I went on home for a rest and a cup of coffee.
Checked the new chicks
I went by the new chicks to make sure they were not out of the nest and doing well.
They did well until evening when I found them on the ground with one of the Momma hens. The Momma hen took them to the nursery for the night but when all the other little chicks came in to roost the momma abandoned them and went back to the box nest with the other momma.
I had to elevate the three chicks back up to their mommas for the night.
Big pot of vegetable stew
I did go over to my brother’s garden and picked some bell peppers and tomatoes and stole some onions from him too.
I had potatoes from my garden and pole beans too so I put a big pot of vegetable stew on the stove cooking away for a couple of hours and still has an hour to go.
Another nice day puttering around in the forest.
A very productive day! You’ll never run out of water, always a good thing.
Like a proud papa, you have to help Momma hen keep her babies in line. The stew sounds so good!
You keeping busy getting more spring water for your storage tanks. A nice large pit of stew sounds wonderful.
