Car battery disconnect
When I got home from my last trip, I found my car’s battery was dead. These newer cars have a lot of sensors on them that tend to drain the battery when the car isn’t used much.
I figured the easiest way to remedy the problem was to put a battery disconnect switch on the battery, so I can disconnect it when not in use and that should fix the problem. I don’t really use the car that much, sometimes once a week or even once every couple of weeks.
That’s the disconnect switch I need to install on the positive side of the battery.
I needed to make a brass bar to connect the switch to the battery post clamp. I had a piece of brass that needed a couple of holes drilled in it for the bolts to go through to connect it.
I got out the rest of the tools and worked on getting the switch hooked up.
All hooked up. That should do the job.
Internet hook up
The internet guy was due some time between 12 and 2. He showed up just after two.
Iffy
I showed him where and what he needed to do to get it hooked up. But there was some question about the distance he had to run the wire. They had a 300 foot limit on how far the wire could be run and my house was at the limit so he wasn’t sure he could make it work. We talked about it for a bit and looked for any ways to shorten the run. He needed to hook the wire on a redwood tree, but the companies policy was to not hook the wire on trees. But we had no choice.
Finally he said, let me go up the pole and measure how much power we have up there and if there is enough, he’d try to make it work.
Here’s Mike up the pole checking the line for how much internet power was available. Just barely enough.
Fresh apple cider
While he was up there a neighbor drove by and offered me some fresh home make apple juice. My neighbor has a bunch of elementary grammar school kids come by each year and make apple cider. I did hear them screaming over there earlier having lots of fun gathering apples and making the cider. I’d helped him put an electric motor on the apple chopper-upper a few years ago, so he usually gives me some cider.
I got an extra bottle of it for the install guy.
And yes, it was yummy.
I hung around and helped him get the wire run across the creek through the blackberry vines.
When we got the wire run to the house he measured the power to see if we’d make it and it was just barely enough power to make it work. I offered to go under the house to run the wire as it would shorten the length considerably instead of going around the outside of the house which would provide a bit more power.
It was getting late when another installer showed up to help him finish up. It worked and I now have a better and much faster internet connection than I had before as the other internet provider’s system was failing and not working well for over a year. They told me to get another internet provider so I did.
Where’s my camera
I was getting ready to write my blog when I realized I didn’t have my camera and didn’t know where it was. This happens fairly often. I looked around the yard in the dark, but couldn’t find it. After doing some thinking on it and where was I the last time I used it, I thought maybe it’s down in the creek when I had to cut the blackberry vines out of the way to get the cable across.
That’s were it was alright.
Nice day.
