Chicks and van repairs
I went out to feed and water the chickens this morning and found Mamma hen taking care of her chicks in the pen.
Van’s radiator repairs
I decided today would be a good day to get the fan shroud off the van’s radiator. There were lots of bolts to take off and most of them were hard to get to.
After much work I got the shroud and the electric fan off.
Is it leaking
After that I started the van and let it warm up to test for a leak. After it warmed up I looked under the van and there was no puddle so it’s looking like there isn’t a leak.
Aluminum radiator
No matter I’m planning on installing an aluminum radiator which will take a a bit of remodeling of the radiator mounts.
I put that aside for now and will keep an eye out to see if the leak shows up.
Remodeling
Here’s the radiator with the shroud out during testing. I plan to move the radiator closer to the fan after I take the fan spacer out. Moving the radiator might help it cool in it’s new spot as more air flow can get around the radiator after I do that.
Redesigning
The fan shroud was a real pain to take off. A lot harder than it should have been as I thought I designed things to make it easy but it wasn’t so some more design changes will be made when I put it all back together.
Chicks
I checked on the chicks and they were doing fine eating away at the feed tray.
Fence wire
I measured and cut the fence wire for the creek chicken fence but didn’t get it up yet.
Grazing chickens
I let all the other chickens out to graze the yard late in the day.
Won’t use the nest box
The hen didn’t seem to want to use the nest box tonight so I moved it closer to her to see if she’d use it.
But last I saw the hen didn’t want to use the nest box and sat here with her chicks under her when I last checked on her. I hope she is in the box by morning, but it doesn’t really matter.
The hen prefers to nest right here instead of inside the box.
I spent most of the rest of the day sitting around with the grazing chickens chair hopping and just enjoying the day.
Nice day puttering around the yard
