No Power So I Do Some Forest Work Instead

Monday July 17, 2023 Guerneville CA.

No power today

It went off just before I got up, so that changed what I was going to do today which was to work on the van’s electrical fan hookup wires.

Forest work

Instead, I gassed and oiled up the big chainsaw and hopped on the quad runner to ride up into the forest where I knew there were some downed trees across the roads.

First one

I cut this one off the road in quick order.tree1

Then I rode over to this spot and cut up the one behind the quad runner.quad2

This one was a bit more work than the other ones.tree3

Drink of water

I knew where there was a larger one that needed some work so I headed on up to it, stopping at the new spring for a drink of water.spring4

The big one

This one leaned over during a slide last winter and when it rains hard again, it is likely to finish coming down on the road.tree5

Cutting it up

I was working on cutting it up into smaller pieces so I could get it off the road.cutup6

It wasn’t long before I had the road cleared so I could proceed.road7

I knew there was one more but I couldn’t remember where it was. I didn’t find it, but I found two other small ones I had forgot about.

Water tanks

I always stop  here to check the water level in the tanks so I know how much watering I can do. With all the rain we had last winter, I can water the yard a lot this year. The tanks were full.watertnks8

So when I got home, I turned on some sprinklers.

Kayak

My kayak has been up on the van’s roof since I got back from my trip. I needed to take it off and haul it over to the car I bought a couple months ago. I need to make a loading and unloading arm for the car to help load and unload it more easily.

I  have such an arm on the van and am using it to take the kayak off.boat9

Here’s the little arm in action.arm10

It slides in when not in use and for higher rigs is very handy and makes the job much easier.arm11

Nice day.
