Hondo Won’t Start, But I Fix the Problem

Monday November 18, 2024 Guerneville CA.

Starting problems

I headed on up into the hills today with Hondo. I rode around some checking out some roads as there was a big storm coming in soon.

I stopped Hondo in a spot and when I went to start it again, it wouldn’t start. I usually start it by stepping on the foot brake and turning the key to start it, but no go.

Eventually, I put it in park and it started right up. Somethings wrong with the brake thing to start it.

Clouds

As long as it starts I continued my ride around the hills checking stuff out and stopped at the top for this picture of the big storm starting to come in.sky1

Rocks

I stopped here to throw these rocks off the road. There always seems to be lots of sticks and rocks to throw off the roads.rocks2

Trees

And trees come down across the road as fast as I cut them out.tree3

Brush

And, of course there is always lots of brush to cut off the roads too. I stopped here to cut some of it to keep it back off the road.brushing4

It’s a never ending task to keep the forest stuff off the roads.

Eventually, I headed home for a nap.

Fixing the starting problem

I got the repair book out for Hondo and did a bit of reading. I checked the fuses for the brake lights as that has something to do with the starting procedure, stepping on the brake pedal to start it.

I found the fuses in here.rig5

I checked them all out, but that wasn’t the problem.fuses6

Since the fuses were all good, I checked the brake pedal’s switch and found the spring that goes to the brake light switch was off, so the brake switch wasn’t working which won’t let it start by stepping on the brake pedal.

I put the spring back on and bent it just enough so it shouldn’t come off again.

Nice day.

Some Chores and A Ride In the Misty Forest

Sunday November 17, 2024 Guerneville CA.

Misty day

It looked like it was going to be a misty day today.

I wanted to take some tools up to a trail I’m working on so they’d be there when I wanted to work on it. I loaded the shovel and the Pulaski on my quad runner and headed on up to where the trail was and rode on up it.

The shovel that was on the front rack caught a tree and broke the handle on the way up.

I made it all the way up the narrow trail and left the Pulaski up there but decided to bring the broken shovel back down. I’ll fix that later.shovel1

Wood stove

My wood stove was full of ash so I got the wheelbarrow out and a flat shovel and filled it up with ash. I’ll let it cool and put it somewhere for the chickens to get into as they like to dust with this stuff.ashes2

Back to the shovel, I decided a short one was the way to go, so I smoothed the broken part and it was good to go.shovel3

Misty

The day was real misty, not enough to be a drizzle but just enough that if you stayed out in it, you’d get damp.

After hanging around the yard for most of the day, it was time for a ride in the forest as it’s always nice when it gets damp up there.

I rode up this road.road4

And by this new little watering hole I’m working on. It’s mostly a seep coming out of the hill but it will be enough water for a little watering hole.waterhole

Pond

Then it was over to our little pond which has been filling up a little with the recent rains. More rains coming next week so it should fill all the way up.pond5

Raven’s have been using the little pond to bathe and drink every day, lots of them. That’s why the water is muddy.pond

From there I worked my way over to this overlook where I spent about an hour enjoying the day.rig6

You can see some of the mist out over the forest. It’s starting to get a little bit heavier.forest7

After a good break there, I rode on down this trail.trail8

And stopped to get these downed trees off the road.trees9

Eventually, I made it over to a neighbor’s place to check out a road there. I parked here and got out to walk to check out the road.rig10

Then I walked out this road to check it out. I built this road a number of years ago and now it could use a little work to get it all opened up again.road11

From there, I headed on home for a nap.

Nice day.
