Checking On Stuff After the Rain and Moving Some Rock

Saturday November 2, 2024 Guerneville CA.

Rain

We got about a half inch of rain last night, so today I rode up into the hills to see what effect it had on the road work I’ve been doing for the neighbors. I’d redone this intersection to drain it a short time ago.road1

It wasn’t a lot of rain, but what we had drained well so that looks good.road2

Visiting

Then I rode over to another neighbor’s place to talk about road work for them. I caught them home so we discussed removing some big stumps off a big slide that happened a couple of years ago. I’d need some chainsaw support to help cut them up and  with moving another big fir tree that was cut up and was on the road in the way. We’ll take care of that soon.

I rode around some more enjoying the day and just checking things out and stopped at this overlook for a look and a break.sky3

After that I headed home for a nap and some chair hopping around the yard.

Moving rock

Later in the day, I needed to move this rock that spilled over the fence and put it to use in a good spot.rocks4

I got the rock all loaded up.loaded5

And moved it the short distance to here where I needed it behind this bulkhead. I unloaded it and got this one more load of rock from the creek and unloaded it too, after a short break.rocks6

Now I was done with the wheelbarrow and needed to get it out of the creek. I don’t remember how I got it out the last time. I decided to try and push it out up this bank. It turned out to be easier than I thought, as the wheel went up the hill fairly easily, easier than I did.hill7

Of course, I needed another break after getting the wheelbarrow out of the creek and sat in the yard here for a spell.chairs8

Eventually, I rounded up  my pitch fork to get ready for the next job with the wheelbarrow.tools9

I’ll be moving this redwood mulch out of here, but not today.mulch10

Quad battery

Next I put the battery charger on my smaller quad runner to charge it up as I want to use it soon. I’ve got too many rigs and too many batteries to  keep going.chargter11

I spent what was left of the day chair hopping around the yard with my chickens.chickens12

Nice day.

Rain, A Ride In the Forest and Some Missing Chickens

Friday November 1, 2024 Guerneville CA.

Rain prep

It was supposed to start raining late today, so it was time to put Hondo’s windshield on so I can use it in the rain. I take it off in the summer as it causes a vacuum that sucks the dust into the riding area. Without it in the winter, it sucks rain in the front. It’s mostly held on with plastic snaps, or clamps.hondo1

I checked the oil and it was low so I put some in as it was low. Now it should shift better, as it’s been a bit slow lately.

Going for a ride in the forest

With Hondo ready for the rain, I put the chainsaws in Hondo and took off for the hills.

First stop was here to cut this leaning tree out of the way. That was a little one. I knew where there was a much larger one that I would get later.tree2

I stopped here at this trail to walk up a about a quarter mile to cut a small log off a bridge.trail3

Ok, it was a small bridge also. I just had to cut the end of the log off, so the bridge would be easier to cross when the water is up.bridge4

Trail cam

Back in Hondo, I headed for higher ground and stopped here to check on one of my trail cams. This one has been giving me some trouble and needed to be checked on. I found the battery was a bit low, so maybe that was the problem. I’ll have to replace them soon.hondoo5

The cam is up in the tree and hard to see which is good because most people don’t see it and leave it alone.cam6

Rain

I went up to the top where it was just starting to rain real lightly.rain7

Good thing I put that windshield on as the rain was slowly picking up a bit.view8

Big tree

I didn’t stay long as I knew where there was a tree across the road that needed to be cut out of the road, just down the hill from the top.treee9

I started by cutting all the branches off it to be easier to move around it and not get tripped up by them.tree10

Then I cut the log into sections to make it easier to move them off the road. They are still very heavy and I had to roll them off the road.cutup11

All cleared up, so I went on by and headed for home.clearedtree12

Back home it was raining lightly.rain13

Missing chickens

When I went over to shut the chickens in for the night, five where missing. So, where were they. It was raining so maybe they were under cover someplace. I found them over at my neighbor’s place as someone had closed the gate on them and locked them in. They were all wet as I herded them on home and locked them in for the night.

Nice day, the rain is welcome. Our rains start around this time and will continue on and off through the winter. Doesn’t rain much around here in the summer which is fine with me. No humidity and mostly no bugs.
