Back on the road

Interesting. I can’t remember the camp we left this morning, but no matter, we had a leisurely morning and were on the road about 11.

Old cabin

Not far up the road from were we camped we saw this old cabin off to the left with a road in to it so we turned in to check it out.

It appeared to be an old cowboy line shack. The cabin on the left is actually one of the first trailers. It’s built of all wood with 8 bunk beds in it. I suppose it could of also been a hunting shack in later years.cabins1

We walked on back to our rigs and got back on the road.vans2

Rough roads

The road was mostly pretty good with some rocky parts in it. We plowed right on through as this was easy compared to what we have been doing the last few days.road3

Down this road.road4

And this road was a better one we used for a short distance.road5

Paved

And we even got to go about five miles on this main one, which was nice after all the crash banging we’ve been doing.road6

Wall Canyon Rd

That’s the one we were looking for as it crossed over the hills going north in the direction we wanted to go. We turned into this road which the GPS said was the right road.maps7

Looking for the road

But it said it was going through this ranch which we wanted to avoid but in the end we went through it as that was the only road we could find, although after we found that one we found we can also get onto it several places up the paved road. No one bothered us, nor did we see anyone around.barn8

The road was pretty soft with sandy but we made it through and let ourselves through this gate when we saw the sign. Oh well, we made it.gate9

Wall Canyon Road

Eventually we made our way onto Wall Canyon Rd. and headed on up it.road10

We thought it was going to be a real rough road, but in the end it wasn’t too bad compared to the one’s we’d been traveling on. There were a few water crossings.road11

There were some rocky parts, but not bad at all and we made good time.road12

Looking for a camp spot

After 3, we start to look for a camp spot for the day. This was the first place that looked good to us. Boulder Reservoir, so we pulled in to see if there were some camping spots that weren’t full of people. It was a boon docking area and almost empty except for a group of people across the water.lake13

Camp

There was one guy here when we pulled in. I chatted with him and he said he was leaving shortly and we could have his spot so we took it.camp14

Even though we’ve been taking it easy, Marty is getting a bit tired out as he’s older than I by 6 years, so tomorrow I think we’ll try and hit mostly paved roads and go up highway 95 in Oregon to a place called Rome and find a camp just above there, so we can then continue east towards the Duck Valley Indian Reservation, which is one of our destinations.

Nice day.

Most of the Day Was Rough Roading It and Slow Going

Friday October 7, 2022 Rocky roads in the Nevada Desert

Four wheeling day

We broke camp here around 10 and got on the road.camp1

We started off on a real good road and were making good time. Nice ranch coming up on the left.road2

They had some of everything there as a ranch should.ranch3

We stopped at this spot to have a look at this mud flat by the road.flats4

And we passed by this burro standing  by the road by itself. It watched us as we drove on by.burro5

Making time

The road was getting narrower, but was still in good shape for making time.road6

Another place along the route, out in the middle of no where and the road was soon to get real rocky.place7

The rest of the day things got real rocky and bumpy

The rest of the day was spent going real slow to get over the rocky road. First gear, low range, mostly idling along as that was as fast as we could go. Very bumpy road for most of the rest of this road. It was crossing over the mountains.road8

The road continued like this.road9

Not in a hurry

And this. We weren’t making much time but it was ok, as we weren’t in any hurry.road10

Blood

Marty, in back of me had to make a stop here to put a band aid on his elbow as the rocks on the road tend to tear the steering wheel out of one’s hands.vans11

Break time

We continued on and were getting tired out so stopped here for a much needed break and some lunch.lunch13

We continued on and this one was a rough one to get up, bouncy bounce. Just staying in the seat was tough.bumpy13

Camp for the night

The road finally got a bit better and we were really beat so stopped in this nice looking spot by a spring for the night, just after 3.camp14

We are enjoying going over these rough roads and the weather is about perfect.

We will continue on tomorrow on some better roads and then hit another rough one I think.

Nice day.
