Hurt Leg Not So Bad and I Ride Up To Help a Neighbor Start a Water Spring Tap

Saturday August 27, 2022 Guerneville CA.

Leg hurts

When I woke up this morning I was real couscous getting out of bed as I expected that leg muscle I messed up yesterday was going to hurt good.,,,,,,,,,,,, But

I was surprised it didn’t hurt that bad. It hurt and I had to move a bit slow but I was able to get around much better than I thought I would be able to. So that’s starting the day on a good note, at least.

Dirt bike ride

I did some chair hopping around the yard until about three when I decided to go for a dirt bike ride up in the hills. I gassed the bike just to be sure it didn’t run out of gas and rode round the hills for a bit.

Might as well go visit a neighbor

I’ve been trying to catch a neighbor at home and haven’t been successful so I decided to ride up to their place and see if he was home. I took this road and saw some wild turkeys hop off the road so I stopped to see if I could get any pictures, knowing I likely wouldn’t get any as they were high tailing it through the trees going down the hill.bike1

Need a stick

I did pick up a stick before getting back on the road.

That thing that looks like  a big stick on the road is actually a little stick in my handle bars which I’ll need in just a bit.stick2

Just wondering

This was the view today looking west towards the ocean, just over those hills. I was wondering if I flew my drone straight up in the sky, would I see the ocean or just more blue sky?view3

Time for the stick

I got to the neighbor’s gate and got the stick out. This is one of the dogs there and one time this guy nipped my hand, just enough to draw a bit of blood. I mentioned this to the owner and he said it’s because you didn’t bring him a stick. So the next time I brought him a stick and threw it for him and did some tug of war with him with it and all was good.dog4

With three dogs barking at me I went through the gate and found Rob home for a change, as well as his wife and kids.

Rob knew why I was there and he suggested we get some tools and go remove some big ferns from a water spring he wants me to help him tap.

Doing the work.

So after some visiting we took the tools over to these big ferns were some water was coming out of the ground, just behind a big fern. I suggested we dig out that big fern so we could see what was going on as far as the spring water and to give us some room to work.

Rob starts out doing the work, but I was soon in there helping him.ferns5

It wasn’t a very big job, and only took us about fifteen minutes to get the fern out of the way.spsring6

Looks like a good spring

Plenty of nice fresh spring water coming out of the ground here. There’s plenty of nice blue clay here too which we’ll use to help tap this spring but not today. We got done what we needed to for the day and will do the next step when he gets a couple things together.water8

It looks like a perfect spring to tap and with it already having blue clay, that made it even better and it should only take about a half hour or so to tap when we get to it.

Nice pond

Now that we had all the work done, we walked the short distance to their pond. As we approached his wife yelled out to wait until she got some clothes on as she was swimming. It reminded me of the pond I had by my house when I lived up in a hunter’s cabin. It’s a nice way to cool down on a hot day. We sat on the dock and shot the bull for a bit.pond9

Some more work

Rob and I made some plans to go check out another spring where he’s been working on a house that burned down during the forest fire a couple years ago. It turned out to be a place I used to visit to steel an orange once in awhile as the place used to be abandoned. He says the orange tree is still there. We used to ride our mountain scooters over there as a friend lived close by.

I headed for home.

Rats

I watched the rats eat more bait last night. I’m not sure but there may be less of them. I decided to just keep baiting them and watching to see if I can determine if the baking soda is working or not.

Nice day.

A Hike In the Forest, a Sore Leg, and Rat Control, Does It Work

Friday August 26, 2022 Guerneville CA.

Main gate adjustment

My brother Tom told me this morning that my main gate was hitting hard and seemed to be out of adjustment. I got the manual out and looked up how to set it up properly.gate

It was fairly simple once I read the directions. Just pushed a couple of buttons and that should do it. I’ll test it out in the next few days to see if it’s just right or not.controls

Going for a ride and a hike in the forest

A bit later in the day I rode the bike up into the hills for a ride around the place.

I cut this big tree out of the road yesterday but during the night it rolled down the hill and back on the road knocking down that little tree so I couldn’t get by so I turned around and went another way. I suspected it might do that. At least it waited until I got out of the area.trees

Hiking and fell down here

I wanted to do some hiking around the forest to do some exploring so I parked the bike and took off on foot to his area. I was doing ok but then my foot slipped on some loose leaves and I started to fall backwards. I tried to stop that action but in the process I felt my left leg big muscle getting ready to tear or something so I did the back fall which was ok, except during the process I sure felt something rip in my leg. Ouch.forest

I wasn’t sure  how bad my leg was going to be, but I did know it hurt a bit as I got up. Nothing to do except start the trek back out about a half mile through this kind of stuff.trail

I made it back to the bike and rested up there for awhile finding a nice spot to sit on the ground.

Eventually I had to get up and I wasn’t sure how that was going to be. I had to be careful and it hurt pretty good, especially getting my leg over the bike seat.

Kitty Kat

I made it home and sat down and Kitty Kat came by to say hi.kitty

It feels like I’ll be nursing that muscle for some time. I’ll just add it to all the other things that hurt. Older age is just great, with lots of aches and pains.

Rat control

Last night I mixed some baking soda up with ground oats and barley and it wasn’t long before the rats were in it. I’m not sure just how many rats came to eat last night but they worked on it all night. I think more new rats came as the night progressed. Rats have picking orders so when one group came the other group  might leave, depending on the picking order. I could tell when new rats showed up as they were real couscous compared to the rats that where there before them.rats10

They came and went all night until about five in the morning.rats8

Most of them weren’t afraid to dive right into the bait can.rats9

Tonight’s action

So, tonight I mixed up some more bait and put it out to see what would happen.baitcan

There were rats that came fairly early and are still working on the bait.

Some wondering

Now, what I’m wondering is did any rats die last night? That’s the big question and the YouTube guy or anyone else on YouTube haven’t proved this stuff works, so far. And the guy that said it does work still has lots of rats so I’m skeptical.

But to be fair I can’t tell one rat from most of the other ones so I’ll keep putting out bait and watching them to see if I can tell what might be happening. Will they eat the bait and die and disappear or just get tired of the bait and disappear or not come back for some other reason?

Figuring it out

All I can do is put out more bait and watch to see if I can figure out what might be happening.

I know the plaster of Paris works

If this doesn’t look like it’s doing the job, I’ll go back to using the plaster of Paris as I know that will work as soon as they digest it. And if the baking soda works and blows them up it should do that on the first night too. So are these just new rats showing up or maybe rats that only ate a little last night.

I can’t tell for sure but it seems like there may be fewer of them tonight, maybe. :O)

Nice day.
