Old Well Sediment Removal, Peeps and the Bamboo Is Blooming

Monday May 24, 2021 Guerneville CA.

Working on the old well

I worked on the old well sediment removal on and off today.well1

Slow process

Mostly I sit in the chair and turn the discharge valve on and off to help pick up the sediment in the well and then I go over and left the hose up and down a few times in the well to help pick up the sand. It’s a slow process as the sand is coming out slowly.hose2

Peep care

I checked on the new peeps and gave them water and some feed.peeps3

I still haven’t been able to get a count of the new peeps as they don’t sit still long.peeps4

I cleaned up these ripe strawberries. Yummy.berries5

And I checked on the blueberries but they have a ways to go until they get ripe enough.blueberries6

Blooming bamboo

I’ve noticed my black bamboo patch is not looking good. It’s more or less brown and doesn’t have many leaves. Apparently bamboo blooms every so many years which is ok, but it then dies.bamboo7

Bamboo rice

Here’s the blooms which makes bamboo rice which I doubt I’ll be eating.bloom8

So when it all dies I’ll have a big dry mess to take care of. I don’t know if I’ll lose the patch or if some new stuff will pop up but time will tell.

Nice day.

Eating Cherries and Riding Our Dirt Bikes Through the Redwood Forest and a Walk Too

Sunday May 23, 2021 Guerneville CA.

Dirt bike ride day

I took care of the chickens and was up on a ladder eating cherries when my  brother Barry pulled into the yard with his truck.

We ate some more cherries then hopped on our dirt bikes to ride up into the mountains to ride through the redwood forest.

We stopped at Indian Spring for a drink of water.spring1

And then rode around the roads for about a half hour before heading to the Top of the World for a break.

There’s always some work to do

We were just about there when Barry ran into this downed tree. Since he was leading he got to move it for us to get by.tree2

Top of the World

We pulled into the Top of the world for a good break and to enjoy the view.bikes4

Crashed

From there we rode down the hill and I attempted to cross this creek.creek5

There’s a little six foot straight up just in front of Barry that I let get the best of me. As I was going up it I was in second gear instead of first gear unbeknownst to me and the bike stalled and I slid back down with the bike on top of me. I did drew a little blood where a blackberry thorn got in my finger but other wise I was unhurt but beat up a little.

Barry says you want me to ride it up as I was recuperating so I say sure we’ll get up there faster.hill6

So he showed me how and rode it right up out of there.barry

We couldn’t get through some gates so we rode back through the creek and back up the hill until we ran into another downed tree blocking the road.road7

New trail area

Barry was talking about a trail through this area so I says lets take a short walk and check it out. He had on  his dirt bike boots which aren’t very good for hiking so that’s why a short walk.trail8

There was sorta an old road up through here, or at least it used to be.trail9

So much for a short walk. We got sucked in and kept going up along this creek.trail10

And through here.trail11

As you can see it’s a beautiful area for a trail.trail12

We made it back to the bikes after a longer walk than planned.bikes13

From there we headed to Tom’s garden as Barry wanted to get some little carrots for a soup he was making at home and then on to my house.

That was a nice ride and walk. We really have our own little park here to play in and enjoy.

Nice day.
