Monday July 20, 2015 Jenner CA.
It sounded like it was going to be a hot day so off I went to Jenner to kayak for the day. It’s not usually very hot down near the ocean.
It was looking to be a fine day as I put my boat in the water. I could see Steve over by Penny Island waiting for me, so I paddled across the river and joined him. We headed on up the river and things looked like this.
There were a bunch of white pelicans we went by just resting and preening.
We paddled on up to otter’s log and sat for a bit.
As I was sitting there I noticed these little black spots in the water on the moss.
Looking closer I could see there were tiny little snails. There seems to be an abundance of these snails in the estuary right now.
We continued on up the river where I saw something moving in the brush on the shoreline. It turned out to be this great blue heron which appeared to be hiding from me.
We worked our way up to Muskrat Nest beach then drifted on up to this spot were we sat and watched.
Two boats of biologists went by heading in for the day. They looked like the guys that collect specimens from the water and the shoreline.
Eventually we worked our way back down the river and went ashore on Penny Island. I looked for blackberries but the sun had baked them all, so no more blackberries on the island this year.
I looked across to the town of Jenner here.
When we got back to our boats, I was beat so I sat down here and rested in the grasses for awhile. This is looking down the back channel of Penny Island.
When we got up from there it was almost six PM, so we headed on in for the day and that pretty much was my day.
