I decided to do a little work in the yard
Being Saturday and all, I decided to stay home and do some much needed yard work. The weeds in the yard are growing fast and I needed to at least mow some of them down.
I started off the day getting the lawn mower going for the spring. That wasn’t too hard, the pull rope needed some working back and forth to free it up and I was good to go. It started after a bit of work.
I ran one tank of gas through the mower and thought that was enough of that for one day. After resting up, I did some digging on my ditch project until I was too tired to do anything else.
Of course, that meant a nap was in order. And something to eat too.
By this time, it was after 5PM so I headed on down to Jenner for an evening kayak.
The wind was up a bit when I got there and no one else was around. I put my boat in the water and crossed over to Penny Island. It was overcast, and rather dreary looking as I paddled on up the river.
This was my view as I paddled on up the river.
The wind wasn’t as bad up the river as I paddled along taking my time and enjoying the evening.
I paddled up to here and backed my boat into the shore where I sat for a good long while taking it easy.
I could see the two horses on the hill top across from me grazing away.
After awhile I moved across the river to Paddy’s rock and this was my view looking past Paddy’s rock towards the town of Jenner.
I paddled on back towards Penny Island and it was still a bit on the gloomy side out, as you can see in the pic below.
I passed by the Penny Island old milk barn.
There were two deer browsing away on the island as I went on by. The two that seem to live on the island the most.
As I was paddling down along the island a big bird flew over, a bald headed eagle and this is the best I could do getting a picture of it. It’s not really that easy to get a good flying bird picture from a moving kayak on the water. It circled once and headed on up the river and disappeared.
I continued on down to the west end of Penny Island. There was a chill in the air and the wind was up more in this area, so I took the hint and headed on in for the day.
This was my view from the west end of Penny Island just before I turned and headed on in for the day.
The day light was starting to go as I approached the take out ramp by the visitor center.
All the yard work and the kayaking wore me out for the day, but it was a good one.
