The wind was down
It looked like the wind was going to be down today so I got it together and headed on down to Jenner to kayak for the day.
I put my boat in the water and paddled across to Penny Island and the river looked like this, looking up the river as I crossed over.
I pulled into this little channel on the upper end of the island and sat for a bit, checking things out.
Eventually I started up the river, crossing over to the south shoreline and going by these merganser ducks taking it easy on this log.
I went by this great blue heron just resting on this submerged log.
I continued on up the river at a slow pace, stopping along the way to this spot by eagle’s landing, where I sat some more.
I saw some cows come to the water for a drink, so I crossed over to check them out. They eyed me, but didn’t charge. :O)
I paddled over by Paddy’s rock here and could see a bunch of cormorants on the gravel just in front of the rock.
This was this bunch of double crested cormorants resting on the gravel.
They got nervous as I approached and soon took off, making a lot of noise.
I paddled down along the north shoreline looking for birds and critters along the edge. Not mush there today.
I continued on down the river and went past these golden eye ducks.
I crossed the river back to Penny Island and was thinking of going on down to the river’s mouth area, but my back was hurting from the burn where I lean back on it, so I decided to call it quits for the day.
I’m cruising up along the island here and will cross over to the boat ramp.
I packed it up and went on home for the day.
Worked on the car
My car had been making a weird noise near the right rear wheel, so I investigated that. I found the rear axle nut a bit loose, so tightened it up tight and that should fix that little noise, I hope, otherwise I’ll have to take things all apart later if it doesn’t fix it, but I think it will.
Worked on the pump hookup
Next I went over to my brother’s and got the new pump stuff so I could prep it. I needed to put pipe joint sealer on the joints and get things ready to set the new pump for a well.
Here’s some of the stuff I was messing with for the old well pump hookup.
We’d planned to use a pressure tank from my hard assed uncles house which died recently. He had two pressure tanks hooked up, but only needed one so we were going to use the other one for the new pump. But when I was draining the tank to cut it out of the system, a lot of real dirty water came out of that pressure tank, which meant that the pressure bladder had cracked and failed and water was corroding the metal in the tank, making the water all black and brown.
I removed the tank from the system and informed my brother he needed to get a new pressure tank.
I spent the rest of the day just puttering around in the yard doing mostly nothing, except enjoying the day.
