Nice day to take it easy
The sun was out and the wind was down as I entered Jenner this morning for a paddle.
I put the boat in the water and paddled over to Penny Island and headed up river.
There was a high tide so there was water in the little channel on the upper end of the island so I pulled in there and hung out for awhile as it’s one of my favorite spots to get out of the river’s current and sometimes the wind.
Dan and his son in law show up
Eventually I continued up the river along it’s south edge and ran into Dan of Esturarian in my sidebar blog roll. We chatted for a good while and then I continued on.
I stopped here to get out of the current as the tide was going out.
I padded on up to what I call muskrat and hung for awhile.
Crossed over the river to the north side
And eventually started back down the river here headed to the Paddy’s rock side and paddled down along it looking for birds and critters.
Here’s a great blue heron I saw landing as I paddled along.
I don’t usually go down this side on my way to the river’s mouth area, but I thought I’d try it for a change. I usually go over and paddle down along Penny Island.
Continuing on down along that side.
River’s mouth area
As I approached the mouth area, it looked like this.
Lots of seals on the beach as I approached closer.
The mouth was wide open as the ocean was going to low tide now.
Looking out the open mouth into the ocean.
I hung around the mouth area for a bit, but not too long as there wasn’t a lot going on.
On the way back I went by these golden eye ducks which come into the estuary this time of year.
Looking for the peekaboo bird
I was headed in to the boat ramp but stopped in front of it as I wasn’t in a hurry to get out and heard what I call a Peekaboo bird in the reeds back across the river so I paddled on over to the reeds to see if it would show itself. It makes a lot of interesting calls that sound nice. One or more of them were in the reeds making calls but they didn’t show themselves.
From there I headed on in for the day and put my boat on the car and went on home and that was my day.
Always nice having a day to relax and enjoy what nature has to offer us.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.
