Monday September 27, 2021 Burnt River Canyon Oregon
We took our time getting it going today as we only had a couple or three hours of driving to do to get to the next part of our adventure.
Fire breaks
We drove down this forest road for about an hour. They are in the process of clearing a lot of trees along the road for a fire break.
Elgin
Eventually we did pop out of the forest and are headed to Elgin Oregon and to highway 84 south.
Durkee Oregon
We got gas at Baker City and continued south just a bit to Durkee were we left the highway. I saw this road maintenance shed so I pulled in for lunch and a break and to get our bearings. It was shady but a bit on the windy side.
When we left we took this road a short distance to our turn off onto Burnt River Canyon Road.
Burnt River Canyon Road
Burnt River Canyon Road was well rocked and had some real nice washboards on it which slowed us down a bit. We only wanted to get a short ways into the canyon before we wanted to find a camp spot for the night.
Tonight’s camp spot
There’s a river that the road runs along called Burnt River where we were looking for a camp spot. We passed up a couple of them before finding this spot by the river.
Fishing
Marty took off with his fishing gear to try his luck.
Later I went for a short walk around this field.
Looking back to our camp on the way back from my walk.
Cool deer
These deer seemed to own the place and didn’t much mind us.
They just seemed to do their thing and mostly ignored us.
Plans
Tomorrow we will continue down this road and continue mostly in a south western direction though the back roads for a few days.
Hopefully we’ll find a place to post this blog somewhere tomorrow.
Nice day.
