Paddle at Jenner
The weather guys said the wind was down today at Jenner so once I got it going I drove on down there and put my boat in the water. I always paddle across the river to Penny Island to sit for a bit and decide which way to go for the day, up or down river.
Penny Island.
It was a bit overcast with high fog today but it’s the ocean so that’s just fine. Keeps it from getting too hot.
Up river
I headed on up the river slowly taking my time.
And stopped at this spot for a bit to sit and watch.
When I continued I passed by this egret which was just resting on the log with one eye on me of course.
I paddled along here along the shore line.
River otters
I spotted some movement up ahead in the water and it looked like river otters so I slowly got closer to have a look as they jumped up on a rock. I got pretty close to them. They weren’t too skittish which is sometimes the case.
So I was able to get some good pictures of them watching me.
Eventually they dumped back into the water and moved down river and I continued up river.
Nice spot
I paddled up to this spot and sat for a good while. The wind died for about a half hour looking back down river towards Jenner.
Headed down rive to the mouth area
After sitting in that spot for awhile I headed back down the river heading towards the river’s open mouth area.
This big brown pelican flew by me. They never seem to have a smile.
I could see move pelicans and critters down at the mouth as I approached.
Mouths open
And paddled into the mouth looking at the ocean out there.
There were some harbor seals resting on the sand on the right. I think they are about to get wet, but hey, they don’t care.
There were lots of critters resting on the right side, mostly birds.
I spent about a half hour looking around at the wild life at the mouth then headed back over to the lower end of Penny Island where I went by this lone pelican.
There were also some terns resting there on the gravel.
From there it wasn’t far to paddle back to the boat launch where I put the boat on the car and went on home for a much needed nap.
Once I was rested up I went out to check on the chickens and mostly chair hopped the rest of the day away.
Nice day.
Hi Nancy,
Choosing a kayak isn’t so easy as there are so many of them to chose from. I’d suggest about a twelve footer, not less than ten feet as too short and the do not glide well. Too long and the wind will blow you around more. Eventually you just need to pick one and try it out to see what you like,

Love that family of otters!!! I truly want a kayak. Any advice on what kind to get?
