Shopping, New Chicks, and Berries Are Ripping up.

Thursday July 10, 2025 Guerneville CA.

Shopping day

I needed some stuff so I rode on over to the shopping centers today and got it done.

Have you ever thought that if we didn’t have plastic cards we would all have to carry around a lot of cash and there’d likely be lots more robberies.

I got home and put all my stuff away and put some new stuff on my bed and crawled in for a nap.

Hens

In the evening I went out to put the chickens away for the night. These hens are on the roost for the night.hens

Chicks

I checked on the hen with the little chicks. She wound up with four of them and you can see some of them peeping out from under her if you look carefully.chicks

Berries

I noticed the wild blackberries are starting to ripen up so I ate some of them.berries

And the mulberries aren’t far behind, they just need to turn black to ripen up.mulberries

Nice day.

Forest Ride and New Chicks Hatch Out Today

Wednesday July 19, 2025 Guerneville CA.

Forest ride

Barry showed up for a dirt bike ride in the forest this morning.

As long as we were up there, we went over to a neighbor’s that wants an old road opened up to check it out. There’s a couple big trees down across the road that we are concerned about removing them without getting ourselves killed by them.

We had to a take a short hike to check the road out so we got some exercise.

After that we rode around our property until we got tired out and headed for home.

New chicks

Today was the first day the old hen took her new chicks out of the nest for a look around.hen1

So far there’s four of them out and about and I can see one more hatched out, just barely, in the nest that needs to gain some energy before going out and about. Maybe some more of the eggs will hatch out also. That black blob is a newly hatched out chick, still too weak to get up and about.nest

I ground up some chicken seeds and spread it around for the little chicks to eat. I don’t really need to do that as I’ve learned by watching the chickens that the hen will eat seeds and grind them up and regurgitate them for the chicks until they are large enough to eat the seeds by themselves.

I do need some new chicks to replace the ones that I’ve lost in the last months, so I hope more hens hatch out then roosters.chicks

Nice day.
