Barry showed up this morning and wanted to do some mushrooming as they seemed to still be coming up in places. We rode up to his favorite spots to look around for the mushrooms.
He had to look around some.
He started to find some of what he was looking for. Black Chanterelles.
He looked around some more and filled up his bag pretty good and got some exercise too.
Spring
Then we went to our main spring for a drink of water.
We rode around for a bit.
And ended up at the trail I’ve been working on and went for a walk out the trail which starts here.
We got a bit of exercise walking on that trail before returning to the bikes.
By now we were tired out a bit so headed to our break area at the top of the ridge.
After a good break we rode around some more and stopped once in awhile to remove trees off the roads.
My new rig came with this black netting around all the exits. I don’t think I need the stuff as it just gets in the way. So I started out the day by removing it.
Tree work
Then I gassed up both chainsaws and loaded them in the rig and headed up to this big tree I’m trying to get off the road.
I have to be very careful so it doesn’t come down on me. I study each cut before I make it just to be sure.
I already had this much done on it when I started today.
I cut the smaller stuff of it to start with and got it down to these two big limbs that were holding it up. Now I will cut the one in the back first as the one in front seems to be holding most of the tree up.
I made the first cut on that big limb, carefully.
The tree limb fell to the ground on the first cut which was good as it didn’t try to get me.
I made the second cut and now the limb is off the ground so it is safer now and I can cut up the rest of the limb without being concerned the tree will fall on me.
I cut as much of the big limb off as I could until it got too high to cut.
I forgot to bring more gas, so I decided to stop here as I figured I only had enough gas to maybe make one more cut and I needed to make at least two cuts to get the log off the rode.
I took a good break before loading up the saws to leave. That last log is holding the tree up on the hillside, so I’ll have to be real careful making this next cut, but it can wait.
Storm cleanup
I had some more storm cleanup to do on the main road so I stopped here to clean some of this stuff off the road.
Then I moved on to this little tree which should be an easy one to cleanup.
It was an easy one to cleanup, but moving it caused this old rotten log to fall down off the hill, onto the road. It was so rotten it was light so I was able to roll it out of the way.
The last spot I worked on was were this big fir tree fell across the road. I cleaned all the big limbs off the road before heading for home.
Power guys
As I approached my place I heard some noise and looked over to see this power guy up on a pole restoring power to my neighbor’s place so they should be happy as they’ve been without power for a few days now. A big tree fell on all the power lines and knocked them to the ground during the last storm.
There are over a hundred pictures that are served up randomly every time you visit or change pages. They are of earlier pictures of interest and also some just to remind me of things.
A Sony AX33 4K, a video camera that takes stills too. What am I doing with that? I take pictures from my Kayak a lot. I found I was missing interesting shots, because my pic was being processed in my camera, before it would let me take another pic. Since I like to take what I call action stills, I bought this camera to take videos, that I could make stills out of, but, as a bonus, this camera also came with buttons to just take stills and that's what I mostly do, unless something is real interesting or too far away for my still zooms. My digilat zoom setting for video goes to two hundred x, and sometimes I need that, but usually, I only use the 10x lens zoom. Because this camera is HD and 4K, the quality has to be real good and it has a lot of stabilizers on it which really helps out a lot for taking pics on the water.
The other thing it has that is a must is a view finder and I had to buy Sony's top of the line cam to get it. This is a must for taking pics on the water, as you must hold the camera as still as posible and putting that eye piece to the eye forms a tripod with your arms that helps a lot. The eye piece is also a must as it works way better than a LED screen to see what you are taking a picture of in the daylight as the LED screens wash out easily in sunlight.
I also have another video camera, a Canon VIXIA G30. I use them both to mostly take stills. The Sony takes higher resolution stills than the G30. That was a bit of a disappointment as I bought the G30 to replace an older camera I dunked in the river, but then had to buy the Sony to get higher still picture resolution that the G30 was lacking.
