Hooking Up the Van’s New Solar Controller and Some Visiting

Van solar project

I had most everything ready to hook up on the solar controller today so I got right to hooking things up. The controller maker said I could hook my solar panels in series to make them work better, so I tried that but they weren’t charging so I put them back in parallel and things started to work.van

Controller lights

All the lights that were supposed to be on, on the controller where on, so I thought, all was good, but I was wrong.controler

My phone said things were charging ok and they were.phone

In the afternoon, Cathy and Art came by for a visit. We sat around and shot the bull for a couple of hours and had a nice visit.visitors

I find a problem

Lots of times when writing my blog, I have to hunt up my camera from where ever I last left it. Tonight I went out in the dark and looked for it in the van and to my surprise, all my van’s dash lights were on and all the gauges too, like the van was running. Oh, oh, I wired something wrong today. Nothing to do about it until tomorrow so I disconnected the van’s starter battery. I’ll have to figure that out tomorrow.

Nice day.

  1. OFM says:

When panels are hooked in series the final out put voltage is the sum of the series voltage

    • Bob says:

Yes, the controller maker said my unit can take the higher voltage but for some reason, it didn’t work. Running them at a higher voltage reduces line loss. I measured about 25 volts on the panel output so I know I hooked them up properly.
