What to do today
The sun was out when I went out this morning to take care of the chickens.
It was so nice I sat around the yard thinking about what to do today and just enjoying the day.
Forest puttering
I finally decided to go up in the hills and check on some stuff as I could just as well sit around up there and enjoy the day too.
I hopped on the dirt bike and rode up through here through all the fallen maple leaves.
Forest walk
And parked the bike here to go for a walk in the forest so I could check some stuff out.
I walked on through this spot checking on some forest fire rehab stuff. Most of the area looked good but I did find a couple things to take care of.
Downed tree
Like this downed tree blocking the road.
I came out on this road not far from the bike.
I got back on the bike and rode on over to this fire break area to see if it needed any work but it looked ok.
Water drainage
And then rode on up to the Guerneville overlook and parked and looked around at the fire break in this area. It could use a bit of work improving the water drainage ditches.
Checking things out
Then I rode on over to the largest fire break area where I was working the dozer yesterday to see how things looked as things look different when you are not on the dozer. I always like to check out what I need to do and how I did repairing things before and after repairing them to see what I did right and what I did wrong.
Biggest forest fire break
Most of this looked pretty good from yesterdays work but I had more to do on it before it would be finished for the winter which I’d like to get done before it rains again. At least fortunately the forest fire never burned to this fire break.
The do some stuff wrong
This is one of the things I found that I don’t like how they fixed it. The road is out sloped to the right and won’t collect any water and they put this big bad bumpy ditch on the road blocking it. Since the road is out sloped the water is already drained and no water will flow in that ditch so I will smooth it out. These kinds of things are done from people that don’t really understand how water flows in the hills when it rains.
CAL Fire
Actually CAL fire has a big rehab team that usually does a fairly good job fixing stuff up that they mess up to stop the fire,…… But.
They had so many fires all at the same time most of the rehab equipment was still working on putting out more forest fires elsewhere so they didn’t do as good a job as they usually do.
The other problem is our hills aren’t real high but the sides of them are real steep with lots of big trees,……So.
That means a lot of the equipment operators are out of their league, as they are flat land operators and usually get into trouble when they get into these kinds of hills. Only some of the operators are good enough to run their equipment under these conditions and most of those guys were still on the fires burning elsewhere. They did what they could with what they had and the time they had as they still had to rehab all the other fires in California before winter.
Full water tanks
Anyway, I headed on home checking the water level in our water tanks which was full so every thing was good in the water department.
Great apples
I also stopped at my brother’s garden and ate one and put a couple of these apples in my pocket for later.
Tending chickens
When I got home it was getting late and the chickens wanted out into the front yard pen.
There they go, happy chickens.
I did some chair hopping and enjoyed the rest of the day. Just before dark it was cooling down so I closed up the chickens and went on in the house.
Nice day.
I just love your happy chickens!!! Flatlander dozer operators is right on. Can’t tell you how many turned their rigs over in the Yosemite area where we ran, including one of our own.
It’s nice that you can hop on the bike and keep an eye on things. A nice sunny day sounds like the perfect time!
